I thought it was time I started my own thread, so here it is..

I have found this site to be very informative and appreciate all of the input by its members. I have learned alot reading from various topics in the DYI and the Aftermarket Performance categories especially (but others too).

I have been an enthusiast of this rotary beast since the early 80's and my interest was peaked (or is it piqued?) again when I noticed the 8 while car shopping in 2005, though I didn't end up wth an 8 then it was still on my mind. I almost bought an '05 in 2008 but ended up finding a more practical solution for my commuting needs and settled for an Oldsmobile Intrigue of all things and will keep this car as a winter beater for many years to come I am sure.

I Finally got my 8 in January this year (2011) and have been doing some nice mods waiting for the summer thaw up here in the great white north with much anticipation.

I think all of the mods I have done are worthwhile (thanks to my research and the members here) and I would like to elaborate on each..

My focus in the first year was to improve efficiency, find minor HP gains as well as prolong the life expectancy of the drivetrain, so I started out by switching to synthetics in the tranny and the diff. I went with the Red Line fluids and as I drained the old fluids I was made certain that it was definitely a wothwhile endeavor. I also replaced the OEM Ignition system with the BHR kit (coils, wires and plugs). This gave my reny new life for sure, the plugs were old and brittle and the coils, 3 of which were probably the original coils for the car (I know one was replaced due to a rough idle issue reported by the original owner in 2008 as stated in an invoice while the car was still under warranty) and showed obvious physical signs of deterioration. Next I installed the Racing Beat Revi Intake with the cold air duct, another worthwhile mod in my opinion. I suppose it would depend on driving habits as the Revi intake really isn't noticable at lower revs and I would guess that the cold air duct isn't much of a factor with city driving either. While I had the bumper exposed I installed the RB Screen kit to protect the oil coolers and the AC condenser. I also noticed the white foam from the blowback out of the crank case in the accordian tube of the intake while installing the Revi and decided to pick up an oil catch can (thanks to the advice of the members here and their suggestions as to how to install). I got a really cool K&N breather filter for the bling factor. More bling, I picked up a really nice aftermarket front strut bar (Beatrush) from one of the vendors here (Kamispeed) at a nice price.

I bought the car in January as I stated earlier and unforunately the timing was poor because we had quite a bit of snow the previous few days but when life throws you a lemon you really should make lemonade. Making the long story short, driving the car home from where I bought it, I destroyed the undertray and instead of just replacing the plastic I decided to purchase the GTSPEC aluminum undertray for years of reliability (I hope).

Fresh oil and a bit of seafoam with my fingers crossed.. I am ready to ride the summer wave!

Don't wanna start a debate here, but have you looked at the SOHN OMP adapter and running synthetic? Or looked into pre-mixing?
+1 on the RB screens!

It's best to look into both! I started premixing as soon as I received my Idemitsu, and installed the adapter not too long after that.

Yes, I have read alot of debate about synthetic oil on here, I changed the oil with Castrol GTX but will switch to synthetic (probably Redline or RP). As for premix, as soon as things thaw out the next tank and every tank after that will be getting a 2 cycle premix.

I will now do some research on OMP adaptors, I assume this will help with lubrication to the eccentric shaft..

No, the OMP is oil injection into the rotor chamber. The eccentric shaft receives it's lubrication from the internal oil system. If your worried about the bearing surfaces, there is a pressure increase mod available from Mazmart.

I did the whole screen kit for both oil coolers and the AC condenser, the screen over the AC condenser is not visible without looking under the front bumper but here is a pic of what the screen looks like installed on the oil coolers..

I have seen some of the installs of the SOHN OMP Adaptor and I really like the concept but...

Does anyone know if there is someone out there that makes a dual resevoir to fit in the location where the washer fluid is that could incorporate washer fluid and 2 cycle oil?

Great concept but I need a good solution as to how I could mount a tank that doesn't interfere with washer fluid. The closest I have seen so far is to remove the washer tank and mount a row of modified catch cans in its place.

Alright, here is a pic. I got a resevoir from an auto parts store that had all the stuff. It is about 1.5 liters or so. Fits perfectly in front of the washer resevoir. Line runs down to the adapter, and it looks like it's drinking nicely. No bubbles, and good clean oil in the OMP lines.

Not any important ones that I know of... Hahaha

Is it mounted or just wedged in there?

I just had another look at the space in front of the washer tank, it seems very small. There is a bolt just in front of that location which would easily accomodate a bracket of some kind though. I think the easiest solution is one that doesn't require any modification to the washer tank but for esthetics it would be nice to have dual tanks (one for the washer fluid and a smaller one for 2 cycle oil) that use a common bracket built off of the original washer fluid tank.

I'm going to see if I can find a pic that I saw the other day that used 3 matching tanks in the washer fluid tank location, it looked really nice but washer fluid capacity would be minimal and it would require a bit of a plumbing modification to make it all work.

It's kind of taped on right now... -_- But you can use 3m double sided tape to keep it on there. It's not the super best arrangement, but it does the trick.

Double sided tape is a good idea, now this is starting to look like a good solution for me but I'll have to find one in black with a yellow lid... total vanity, i know, it's my curse.. lol

So with this mod you run 10W40 synthetic?

Sure do! Keeps the bearings happy (might be a bit too thick, but not too much), and keeps the combustion chamber free of dirty oil. Also, since it's clean oil going through the OMP lines, the injectors won't get clogged up.

I will do the same once I get the OMP Adaptor installed, you are going to like the BHR Ignition kit when you get it, it's another fairly easy mod too..

Any advice on midpipes? I would like the gains but don't want my car to be too loud. I was leaning toward the exotic speed RII catback (3 inch) with the sport catless midpipe based on price (ebay) but am afraid of the noise levels. I really don't know much about it.

Where did you get that GTSPEC undertray from? I'm considering that as well.

I have the Agency Power on stock exhaust. It's still really quiet. Had it for about a month only, so I'm sure it'll get louder. Awesome gains though. Very nice pickup in the midrange. Highway driving is a lot more responsive now.



One thing about having a black reservoir is that you wouldn't be able to see the level.... If you wanted consistency, you could get an 06+ tank, and that would be clear like the 2 stroke tank. Either that, or you could paint the one you get. If you used high temp paint and some clear coat, you would probably be good as far as looking good.
