My (low budget) beautiful OEM-resonator midpipe.
5 Attachment(s)
After many miles running a strait catless midpipe I decided it was time to cut down the decibel levels at a low budget.
I cut away the OEM resonator that I saved when I installed my midpipe a year ago. You need to cut just after the OEM welding. Notice that the inner resonator pipe needs to be welded on both ends so it does not rattle inside the resonator. The rear end of the resonator is 3 inches outside diameter and there is enough material to mate with the end of the midpipe, which is also 3 inches outside diameter. You will have to weld a 2 inch piece of 3 inch inside diameter tubing in order to accommodate the front part on the midpipe. Once the resonator is ready for install set it along the midpipe (while still attached to the exhaust) and mark down the cutting points. You will end up cutting about a 13 and ¾ inch section. Take the midpipe of the car, cut away section and reinstall along with the resonator. Use a Dynomax Lap-Joint Stainless Steel band clamp part number 33272 to clamp the front end of the resonator to the midpipe and a Dynomax Butt -Joint Stainless Steel band clamp part number 33278 to clamp the rear end of the resonator to the midpipe. Results: Used RB midpipe.................$125 Resonator welding job...........$48 Dynomax Clamps.................$23 Amazing noise reduction.......100% Money left in my pockek.......Priceless :eyetwitch |

for a few bucks more you can buy one of these (note 3" ID x 6.25" OD x 17" long model, get stainless scrubble packing option)
http://www.coastfab.com/ultralights.html and a pair of clamps; cut pipe, slip on, clamp down small price to pay for less rigamaroll .... but good job just the same |

Can you post where you got that resonated midpipe? i.e. website address, link, company phone number, POC, pictures. That is a great deal. I wish I knew about it before I went thru the trouble of doing it the way I did. :eyetwitch |
it was used i.e. 20k miles on it
