Mishimoto install with pics o.O

So i posted on a Mizu radiator thread from 9krpm, they ran out, So i ordered the Mishimoto from works concepts. Apparently the Mishimoto company didn't know about the fitment problems and the hose that connects to the reservoir to the radiator inlet is too small. here some pics from today. Oh Works concept had good customer service, unfortunately they closed before i could tell them I had bad fitment on the fan mounting points, but oh well i emailed them. ;)

Lol you don't even know i felt bad :(( it's probably hopped in while i was driving

9krpmrx8 09-21-2012 09:01 PM

The fitment issues are well documented. But it's not too bad, glad you got it in.

yokohamaboi 09-21-2012 09:08 PM

^^^ its not in the car yet :/ still waiting on what they can do about it. i havn't driven my car, in a week an im going nuts! O.o

if i do keep the radiator custom brackets or jb weld :p jk

godesshunter 09-22-2012 06:21 AM

You could dremel out the holes in the plastic a bit.

yokohamaboi 09-22-2012 11:53 PM

^^^ i just took a drill bit and went too town on it. Also im gonna post pics for what future people are gonna install the foam. I found a really good adhesive and foam you could buy that would seal it perfecly and will last long too :)

yokohamaboi 09-23-2012 07:35 PM

So i took my rx8 for a drive 10mins and traffic. I connected the cobb to monitor the coolant temp. The highest it went was 208f at 85f weather. Do you think thats a little hot??

redline86 09-23-2012 08:39 PM

Do you have an accessport with a MazdaManiac tune? Do you have any kind of fan control kit installed like rx8performance's?

yokohamaboi 09-23-2012 08:45 PM

Nope i want a tune from him. But i heard they take forever. Stage 1 cobb tune. Cooling i have mishimoto radiator. And hps coolant hose. No fan control kit.

redline86 09-23-2012 08:53 PM

Those temps are pretty normal then. I live on east coast central florida and it stays 75-85 most of the year and before I installed my MM base tune I was seeing 200-215 on average and that was with mazmarts re-medy water pump and t-stat. Now my temps range 180-200 at those same temps.

Grace_Excel 09-23-2012 11:45 PM

Yep, 9krpmrx8 is spot on about the fitment. I did manage to fit mine correctly. My main issues were the two top mount brackets that hools onto the frame, it's at a 90° angle on the Mishimoto radiator instead of 135°. Secondly; if you still have your engjne under tray, the trays access hole does not align with the Mishimoto drain plug.

The fit will make things tight in there but all should be where they should be. If that makes any sense. And save the sponge foam that adheres around the radiator for better cooling-air flow.

yokohamaboi 09-24-2012 09:27 AM

I installed mine two days ago. Fitment was alright cause the fans. But the under tray drain plug is align to my radiator. My foam was totally gone on all sides from the factory. So i put new foam and its holding up pretty good.

hay i just did this install LAST weekend myself.. SAME EXACT ISSUE with the fan mount holes... 9krpmrx8 gave me warning on another post about the fitment issues.. fan mounting holes was the same thing for me.. No problem.. took out my trusty dremel tool and boom got that shit done... one thing to remember... the foam on the OEM radiator... you NEED for this one.. I went to home depot and got some 1" x 1" weather foam weather stripping and the weather stripping with one side with sticky stuff and hooked it up.. I had to go to Joannes to get some foam adhesive spray and I hooked it up nicely.. Same space as the OE foam but thicker.. It worked quite well.. Oh yes... with the tabs.. they are at the wrong angle... I grabbed a cresent wench and was able to bend them about to the OEM radiator angle.. BE CAREFUL BEND THEM SLOWLY!!! you dont need to get them perfect because where they are bolted to are rubber post that the 10mm nut goes on to.. they are flexible so you have some elbow room there.. all in all the fitment was OK.. I dont like the relocation of the drain hole... that kinda sucks and the angles of the tabs are not right and the radiator holes are a little off.. but as in overall fitment I give this thing a B- but function is good..

I heard the new Mishimotos have improved the fitment issues ? Anyone can confirm ? Are the Mishimoto dual pass ?

yokohamaboi 05-17-2013 12:37 AM

^^^ they aint gonna improve shit if they themselves don't even know they have fitment issues. just buy it its a good radiator mine has held up fine. just buy 3m yellow adhesive (autoparts store) and thick ass foam from home depot. if you have a drill or dremel just shave a little of the plastic on the fan pack. and you be good. No need to spend stupid money on a ron davis, griffin or whatever high priced radiator on a street car. Mizu is also good for the price. Also don't for get your gonna need a new hose from the radiator to the reservoir and worm clamps. stock hose is to big for the mishimoto, everything else is fine.

Dan507 05-19-2013 03:58 AM

I bought a Mishomoto Rad direct form them just after christmas. It was the new rad and fitted perfect!

Wolfe 06-08-2013 11:50 PM

I think I'm gonna be getting one and their hoses. How has the performance been to date?

yokohamaboi 06-09-2013 12:43 AM

I just used my cobb to measure the temps mine are set at 199F. Anyways 93F weather my temps don't past 208F that's hauling ass and stop and go traffic. I'm also using HPS silicone hoses which are good quality. Mine has been running good, No problems what so ever. You might run into minor fitment issues but use your head and improvise you will get the job done.

Grace_Excel 06-09-2013 12:45 AM

9krpmrx8 have a thread about rad-hose comparissons. Look for that thread.

They definitely know about the fitment issues, just days before you posted this I was going back and forth with Mishimoto sending in videos and pics of the fitment issues.

The person that bought right from the manufacturer and got a perfectly fit one tells me they made the changes like they said they would and reproduce, I just couldn't wait 3-6 months, so I returned it to the company I bought it from and got a perfectly fitting BHR one.

Vendors will still probably have the "old" version of the Mishimoto in stock so be careful when buying

Wolfe 06-11-2013 09:08 AM

Well, I will be getting mine right from their website as I have a discount there. But its nice to know that they possibly have fixed the issue.

Today is my Mishimoto Day 2 installation...

Rad fan fitment is good but the upper mounting bracket holes were 1/2" off...

Not a big deal, I can fabricate a new bracket..

The drain plug location were not align to under tray hole..

And now i'm stuck with the rad passenger side sitting/touching the metal tab where u gonna install the top mount bracket..

while the driver side is just fine..

I tried wiggling it..taking out/re-installing the bottom mount bracket..take out the foam..but still no luck

I will try to re-install the rad with no fan but its raining outside right now so it gonna be at least 3 days installation...

Add another day for bracket fabrication..hmmm...thank u mishimoto..and thanks to the rain for washing my car..

Anyone that can shed some light on that would be great..
