Mishimoto aluminum fan shroud

http://www.mishimoto.com/mazda-rx8-a...hroud-kit.html

anyone know anything about this product? i dont think the pics are of the actual product. why would these fans be better than OEM? wouldn't the shroud block the air flow through the radiator?

rotarygod 08-05-2009 03:28 PM

You want all of your airflow through the radiator to be through the fans. However there is a caveat to that. At some point, the forward speed of the vehicle will be such that the flow through these fans becomes a restriction. This is why some aftermarket fan shrouds have small panels which open when there is an excess of air. When the fans are on and pulling air, these little panels stay closed. At high speeds the bleed off excess. They aren't anything fance. Literally just little hinged panels.

Interesting. Does it come with the fans? Looks like it.

yeah, comes with 2 12" fans all the mounting hardware.

9krpmrx8 08-14-2009 11:57 PM

How about you get it and let us know :-)

PirateARRRX8 08-18-2009 01:45 PM

^True, those fans are legit too.

nycgps 08-18-2009 01:57 PM

Im just wondering whats the CFM for these little electric fan.

and does it work with stock setup? or its just all time on ? or it as thermostat ?

Their website says 933cfm each.

They are all universal fans from what I understand, so you can wire them however you'd like. I had them constantly running in my civic hatch track car but my buddy has them on a switch in his S13.

Your engine on the garage floor should stay relatively cool! I kid. Let us know if you see lower coolant temps. Did you have the BHR radiator prior to the rebuild?

Highway8 05-28-2010 01:13 PM

Well they look nice, however sStock fans already flow alot of CFM (not sure the numbers) so I dont know if these can really improve anything. But if they do, I might consider these if I have any cooling issues this summer.

9krpmrx8 10-25-2010 11:48 AM

Any updates on this product Nuke? I had a battery over flow a while back and I noticed that the plastic was damaged on the battery tray and fan shroud and it is deteriorating even more and cracking and falling apart. The factory setup is expensive, are you happy with this setup? i know supposedly the the fan do not flow as CFM but I have yet to find any data on what the factory fans flow.

rx8_504 10-27-2010 12:37 PM

has anybody who installed this fan shrouds have gotton any cooling improvement? im thinking of changing my fan shrouds since im replacing my oem raditor with the mishimoto radiator and adding the fan shrouds with it, but im not sure if its would be worth it

i had the BHR radiator installed the same time as the fans. unfortunately i have not been able to drive my car since the rebuild. once i'm able to drive it i can try to post some water temps from my data logs when i do my tuning. sure that would tell you anything since i dont have anything to compare.

in all honesty i got these fans more for the looks than improving cooling. the BHR radiator will take care of that. the polished aluminum looks way better than the cheapo black plastic.

rx8_504 10-28-2010 10:00 PM

thats true thats one of the reasons i want it , cause of the looks but also to have it cool down faster aswell..it be awesome if you could post some logs for us to see hope it goes well for you dude

933 cfm each fan? no thanks. why? cuz it is pulling LESS than what the stock fan motor do. so what's the point ?

sure it looks nice. but once u have everything re-installed you're not going to see it + it cools worst than stock. so wth ?

they even post the Engine Code wrong, wtf is FE3S ? is that some new Mazda ?

9krpmrx8 11-01-2010 09:44 AM

NYCGPS, where are you getting the CFM of the factory fans? I looked everywhere and could not find any info on that.

measure the size of the fan blade, degree, rpm of the fan motor.

I don't remember the exact but it was something like 1300 cfm at low speed and around 1700 at high speed. ask MM, he should know.

stock fan are actually pretty durable + pulls reasonable amount of air. It's not as good as mechanical clutch based-fan but we have so little space under the hood --- no choice. :(

SleepeR1st 11-01-2010 11:21 AM

RX7 clutch fans for the win!

The CFM rating is for 1 fan or combine both? I noticed that FAN #1 consumes 11A and FAN #2 only 0.7A, so means both uses different motor. Thanks

mine are actually very visible. you can even see the radiator. if you're worried about the actual fans, you can always just get the shroud and get some fans that push more air. i'm not too worried about it yet with all the other cooling mods i've done.

Rattle?

Hi y'all I have a odd issue I have a 2008 RX8 GT AUTO and in reverse or at a stop with AC on my Mishimoto fans rattle like crazy. I didn't hear or watch anything about tightening the fan screws. Before I installed the fan shroud I tightened one of the fan screw and it seems like it really didn't tighten the fan to the shroud, it still wiggled with a little push. I figured it had special mounts like on a PC fan to stop rattles. Anyone else run into this issue?

TheRedRotor 01-25-2020 03:59 PM

can we bump this? probably going to order this kit but the website currently has this kit listed at 2300 CFM, that's pretty good flow if you ask me however im not sure what stock flow is and ive been searching all day i cant find a value. Anyone who has them able to weigh in on cooling capability?

Did you search; I seem to remember that 9krpm had a less than positive experience

you would be better served to get the FAL420 as I recall. Seems like that’s what he ended up with.

TheRedRotor 01-25-2020 05:59 PM

I've been reading as many threads as I could until I got a headache haha, I seem to remember finding one yesterday with regards to the Flex-a-lites but now I can't find the link again unfortunately, gotta keep searching!
