Mostly an issue of improper alignment, improper tire pressures, and overly-mad driving skillz.

I would not recommend it either ... for autocross. The RX-8 isn't exactly a torque-monster, but it has plenty of power to induce throttle oversteer at will at autocross speeds in first and second gear. So a "pushy" car can be balanced with the throttle pedal on an autocross course. I would bet that a properly balanced car would still be faster, even in an autocross setting, if driven by someone with really exceptional throttle control.

At higher speeds, the Mazdaspeed suspension as a complete set will result in absolutely terminal push. Even with the stock front bar and stiffer rear bar, my car tends to push at the limit. It is controllable with tire pressures and adjustments to driving style, but it is an undeniable push. I have tried every setup and alignment setup there is, and used the stopwatch and pyrometer to back it up, not just seat of the pants. And don't just take my word for it, you can call Mazdacomp and ask them what their research department has found with regard to this setup. I believe that when I go to a "real" shock absorber I may be able to improve the situation.

But for autocross, yes, a stiff front end will help put the power down.. Last I checked, stock class autocrossers were only allowed to change the front bar... maybe anything to reduce roll is valuable.

Incidentally, if you have some magic alignment and tire pressures maybe you can share. My last bit of useful information that I will share, and I'm sure I'll get told I'm wrong again... I run zero toe front, 1/16 out in the rear, lots of caster in front, camber is set to each track based on tire temps, typically about 2 in the rear and a little less in the front, and I run a couple of psi higher in the rear than the front on my hoosiers. Note on the camber, that we are allowed two degrees max in touring, but my temps say that is enough.

i called the koni reps yesterday. they said that the sport shocks should be good for spring rates up to about 450lbs/in before maybe* needing to revalve. im sure no off the shelf spring will be that heavy.

I could not agree more. I originally bought the spings, put them in; within one week I had the shocks on order. For me, it was brutal.

I like the Mazdaspeed set-up. Great for every day driving. See sig for other modifications.

Thanks, that is the info I was looking for. Mazdaspeed springs are Front: 280 Rear: 190 so they should work.
