Mazdaspeed CAI Installation
 

I just bought a 04 rx8 about a week ago and the check engine light is on. It has a Mazdaspeed CAI. I talked to a mechanic about it and he said that theres a sensor that is unplugged thats part of the intake. Its a green plug. I don't know what the actual name of the sensor is. Anyways, the mechanic said to fix the problem he would have to drill a hole into the intake and use the part of the stock intake to have this sensor plugged back in. I was looking around on the forum and didnt find anything on this. I also havent even seen any pictures of someones engine bay where it looks like they had to do this. If anyone could help me out on this, I'd greatly appreciate it!

NOOOOOO. He's an idiot.

Don't let him drill a hole in your intake. that plug is part of the VFAD unit that controls an adjustable flap for the stock intake. it's not needed and shouldn't be causing you to throw a code.

The better question is what code is your car throwing. If he's not willing to tell you, then you need a better mechanic (sounds like you need a better one anyway). If he wont tell you, then go to advance or autozone and get them to run the codes, and let us know what codes they say are on.

I didnt think it sounded right. I wont be using him again...ever. Hopefully this is nothing serious. Thanks for your help :)

I had my car checked out today. Apparently one of my friends works at a Mazda dealership, and I had no idea! Lol anywho, he scanned it and said that was the intake manifold solenoid that was setting the light off. He said it could be a burnt wire, but most likely its the solenoid itself that went bad...
