Mazda Speed CAI Impressions

Well, just installed this about an hour ago. Took me a total of 3hrs 20minutes, and the entire install was done by myself. The dealer quoted me 3 hours @ 90$ / hour so I told them to eat me.

First thing to note, is that I've NEVER even changed the oil in a car, and this is the first time I ever worked on one to this extent. The install was a breeze, the only hang up was the 4 gashes I have in my hands from the sheet metal.

First impressions are ... LOUD... I have the MS Dual Exhaust also, and at 6000rpms, there isn't anyone who isn't looking at what you're doing. Nice to know that if I get pulled over, which I'm sure I will, that I have CARB stickers!

If you're going to tackle this project, it can be done with just a simple set of ratchet attachments, and a flat / phillips screw driver.

One good thing to note though, is the directions say to take off the wheels, which you DO NOT NEED TO DO! All fasteners can be removed by rotating the wheels.

Overall rating of intake is, not much HP gain, but definitely something. Fun factor is 100% worth the price. If your into aggressive driving, and like to feel the car come alive when you are WOT then exhaust and intake upgrades are definitely for you.

Also, an important side note... I was able to totally shame a stupid large exhaust piped honda civic at a stop light. He rev'd his little pistons up real high, but they are no match for 8500 rpms with intake / exhaust.

If you are thinking about doing this yourself, and aren't supremely mechanically oriented feel free to send me a PM about the experience, definitely was a good one for me!

Good for u looks like u enjoy the sound and attention. For me I got the KN filter and MS exhaust ver1 (JDM type). Which is not loud enough, I can't even win the GT 01 celica with my auto 8, :(

waiting for SC.

^Wow, thats horrible. After you get your SC, you'll probably still have you ass handed to you by a modded GT-S. Those things are FAST with the proper bolt ons.

Good to know the install was "easy". I wonder how much those fetch for.

Who sells them (besides the Mazda dealer)? And how much are they going for? Pics? Links?

Not so sure about that one...my experience with GT-S Celicas is that they are dog slow (still faster than auto 8s)--even the modded ones unless they are boosted. A boosted auto 8 shouldn't have any problem dispatching a stock GT-S or even a modded N/A Celica.

try onlinemazdaparts on this forum, his name is jason (bagman1) hes good and trustworthy on this forum, also go to rosenthal mazda on this forum and hes good as well.. other than that I would think that only the dealerships are selling them, that being because it just hit the market, and its brand spanking new.... good luck getting one...

RX-Nut 06-18-2006 08:38 PM

are they any better than the RB intake?

I/H/E and chip and they are in the low 14s - high 13s. Here is an example: http://forums.clubrsx.com/showthread.php?t=393686
There are many that don't believe its possible, but I've seen quite a few people do it now.

I got mine from OnlineMazdaParts, last I heard he still had 5 left from his initial shipment, and Tommy from Rosenthal was getting more in shortly.

Price was 330 shipped, but I believe both have raised their price since the initial offering. There are pics in Rosenthal's section, I didn't feel like busting out the camera to photgraph the process...

The problem can't win a celica or even a standard car is due to the fact mine is automatic, starts slow.......

lurch519 06-18-2006 09:57 PM

wow, looks just like my aem cai, except my aem doesnt have mazdaspeed on it........

but yes, i am sure it sounds awesome. i have been told my 8 sounds like a ferrari at high rpms, and i looooooooooove the sound when i go through an underpass or tunnel.

Word... Mountain Caverns were a lot of fun today, the intake makes the perfect mod to add to a high flow exhaust system...

I couldn't even imagine having a supercat also.
