MagnaFlow VS HKS legamax catback
I would like to hear about your opinions about the two cat backs !!
I want to buy one of them what is gonna be the best for my 8? my car is n/a Thnx!!! |
HKS has exceptional quality! I'd go hks
|
+1 for HKS!
|
i am about 80 % for the hks in case i know about the quality but i don't know anything about magnaflow, tanabe or borla. (us exhausts)
So i need your help before my order!!! |
There are lots of videos on youtube for the exhausts. Have you looked into those?
|
yes but i don't speak about the sound i want to know the best quality and performance !!!
|
Your not going to get a lot of performance out of ANY exhaust really, especially a cat back. maybe 3-5 hp. You get more by removing the catalytic converter. Quality wise HKS is one of the top you can get period. Don't know about the others too much, just have seen a lot of HKS exhausts, and they all are built very well and sound amazing.
|
I decide my cat to change with the aftermarket SARD cat but i For the cat back i didn't decide yet i already have the header installed !
|
legamax isn't an exhaust to get for performance. it's 2.5"
PS: I owned one. |
also check out fujitsubo legals R/knightsports catback to consider.
this is one quiet exhaust that opens up nicely on top end. and the noise is really tolerable if you ever hit the track. its 3" stainless with a resonance chamber that drones out the rotary's natural pulses...which is the only sad part. but the exhaust itself is well tuned, expect to feel better city drivability between 4-5~rpms. a lovely mature tone that sees no reason to be removed. stock characteristics with more ooomph when your pedal hits the floor. a perfect balance between engine noise and exhaust tone. a streetcar's match made on earth! (NO, i don't work for them) edit: don't be confused with more noise=more power. |
I also say HKS but go to youtube and listen to them both for yourself
|
from what i hear, hks is the way to go, i'm trying to get one as cheap as possible, i dont feel like spending more than $800. A friend of mine has a 2005 rsx type s and bought a magnaflow, looks nice, power out put wasnt great. he went with a 5zigen instead. american exhausts are great for american cars. i work at a ford dealership, and trust me they are only good on american cars, especially brute force american muscle, not a more finesse car like the rx8. id stick to jdm all the way. try www.rhdjapan.com for more. if you dont already know the rx8 code is SE3P, go under that under the mazda tab and look at exhausts, they're expensive but im sure you can find them cheaper if you google the name.
|
if you want performance, get a 3" exhaust.
turboxs 3" exhaust: $500. comes with a free cat replacement pipe. net gain 13-15whp. JIC has a 3" exhaust as well. but im pretty sure its ~$1300. you can get JIC in titanium. it is a lot lighter as well. just the catback itself, the turboxs is heavier than stock due to the larger and thicker piping. once you replace the cat. it is probably 10lbs lighter on a whole. |
to me, magnaflow always seemed cheap and generic.
i'll hop on the hks wagon +1 |
Why to get 3' and no 2.5' ?
I am n/a and i am not going to turbo!!! 3' i thing is and the rev8 but i believe that hks is more quality |
I use to have the Magnaflow. It had a great sound but the quality wasnt good at all. They said it was all stainless steel..it was far from that.
I say go HKS or something other than Magnaflow. |
What is the reason that many people here selling the legamax? did anyone know the weight?
|
i can't find the weights online, im calling direct, i'll have it for you in a couple hours
|
ok, now im probably going to dissappoint a lot of you guys and you will probably hate me for getting you this info but......
Stock: 39lbs HKS Legamax Shipping Weight: 60lbs:banghead: Magnaflow: 44lbs Borla: 33lbs TurboXS: 60lbs I still did not hear anything back from Agency Power or A'PEXi. I had a 10min conversation with a tech guy from HKS and i told him that I autoX and would looke to keep everything as light as possible. He said that there might not be too many catback systems out there that weigh less if they are stainless steel. Titanium will be considerably less but cost more (i thought that was a very astute observation on his part), he said for our cars we are probably better off by doing a custom system with a 65mm midpipe with dual 60mm y-pipe to whatever size tip we want more or less. and that "anything over 65mm, you will lose some serious low to midrange power unless you have a turbo" Idk what goals you guys were trying to reach as far as power and where you want the power to be (high or low or mid) but i need mid to high and im trying to keep my car light so i have a lot more thinking before i go buy one, i just might make one myself now:icon_no2:. |
^ I think it's safe to say those weights are inaccurate.
|
i think that the weight for legamax is with the box! we need the weight just for the cat back and the pipe.
|
turboxs almost always comes with the midpipe too.
I've owned and installed the legamax, borla, turboxs, hipower, etc. None of them felt nearly as heavy as the oem one. the only exhaust that I think comes close to oem weight is the racing beat. |

the Agency Power exhaust weighs 44lbs which includes the car delete pipe which is dual resonated and is 3" in diameter and the tip is 4.5" titanium |
the guy i talked to HKS (garrett) said the exhaust itself with the pipe probably weighs roughly around 50lbs
|
I got a connection at HKS, lemme see what I can find out.
