LS2 Coils and N/A

Hey Guys,
I want to do an upgraded coil set up because I feel the coils will need to be replaced soon. I was wondering if anyone has run the LS2 Coil swap on NA? Is there any benefits or should I just go with a BHR kit? Money is tight and I'm looking for the best route to go on a budget.

They will last longer that's for sure. Buy 4 D514A coils, RX-8 Harness to LS2 Coil Connector (ebay), make yourself a bracket and make your own ignition wires . Done deal

Those aren't the same coils that BHR uses in their kit.

I know they use d585's, chose your poison.

once to buy known good coils, all the correct connectors, sparkplug wires ( you will have to make yourself), harness and mount you will find that you will not save that much money. You will save a little. But you will have to wonder if it wouldnt have been better to just buy the kit. Be careful in buying coils--dont go to e bay and just buy anything out there.

Thanks guys really appreciate it. I think I will just go with the BHR kit. It will just be easier to put on in a weekend.

My DIY D585 coils. Went with simple bracket that provides better cooling. Not shown are the MSD plug wires. Total cost about $375 with new plugs. Two hour build, but I designed bracket on the fly.

Very good craftsmanship. What does the rest of the bracket look like? What cost and time do you have in it?

oh i reused the mazport bracket i have

Let me know how the D514A Corvette coils work. I thought about that, but went with D585. They seem to be the most popular here.

this is what i found....

The LS2 coil (GM# 12573190, AC Delco D514-A) from:
2005-2006 Corvette (& GTO and Avalanche)
2002-2005 Cadillac Escalade
2000-2006 Yukon
1999-2006 Chevy Silverado
2001-2005 Trail Blazer
Some Hummers, etc.

The model is GM# 10457730 or AC Delco D585 (also Wells C1251, Standard UF262, GM/Daewoo 190005218). The LS2/truck coil has a visible external aluminum heat sink near the connector.

These LS2 coils are incredible. Even compared to the LS1 coil, these are just crushers!

On the LS1 coil there is around 40 milliamps of peak secondary current with 5 milliseconds of dwell time.

On the LS2/truck coil (AC Delco D585), there is 120 milliamps!

I just installed the d585 coils with home-made wire with 45deg boots and they work fine, but I twisted the coils to suit the 45 deg boots.

taylor list these as compatible 90 deg boot.
Taylor Part # 46067

The wire challenge is not the angle, it is the LS2 connector. MSD and others make the correct plug wires.

Where did you order the harness and plug wires from? Break down the $322 please because that's a significant savings over BHR. For that price I will order it today!!!

Can these just plug and play as far as the dwell is concerned?

Reviving an old thread... but why won't the stock ngk wires work on these coils? I've heard that 12a spark plug wires do work however. Anyone tried this before?

Harlan 10-26-2012 11:28 AM

stock wires wont work because the coil connector is different. I currently use wires from a 05-07 Ford F150 V6. If you are handy with a flat blade and crimps you can shorten the wires to length.

Found this bad ass bracket thought i'll share. Search eBay lsX coil bracket
