WA looking for alittle extra power

I know about cars, though only the basics and never really tried tuning anything up. I've got an '04 with 38k miles and would like to get up to about 300 hp before i do anything cosmetic and such. The trick is 1 I'm on a bit of a budget, 2 given the difficulty of trying to fix a blown engine I'd like to steer clear of turbos if possible (if I cant do it without one I'll give in but not my first choice)

Just wondering if anyone has a particular setup or direction to go to starting the work. Most of it will have to occur in steps as I save up the cash to do it so I dont want to do something that makes my car un-drivable till i can get the money for the next step.

Here, start with this:

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-aftermarket-performance-modifications-23/new-rx8-owner-faq-1-25-09-a-163824/

And if you're not wanting to turbo/FI, good luck getting to 300.

Oh.. and if you are on a budget, stay stock.

you won't clear above 220hp at the wheels NA.

nitrous 55 shot is the best bang for the buck, but a good complete system will prob run about a grand.

you need FI for 300whp

wasn't sure. my friends have been giving me some advice but only one has any rotary experience (and it was all rx-7) so just didn't know what to trust and what to focus on. its hard to take what they've done on their WRX's and what similar things can be done and to what effect

and by budget i mean keeping it to 1-2k at a time. i'll never skimp when doing something but cant do lots of things at once lol.

Nothing will get you to 300hp without Forced Induction of some type.

You need to understand that this motor was maxed out from the factory - you could build headers, run a four-inch exhaust system, a ram air setup with NO filter, and you would not net 5h.p. to the wheels.

Go large or go home, nitrous or FI, there are no shortcuts......

Exactly.

If you are not prepared for FI, use any available funds on suspension / appearance modifications. You will enjoy them, and reliability won't suffer.

It's just a good idea to realize up front you probably won't ever keep pace with the modded wrxs and rx7 your friends own in the hp / drag-strip department. Of course... bite the bullet and go FI and that is a different story.

Another young man with a reading disorder. There are several threads on this very subject. Let me put it gently 300hp is not possible without FI - turbo, s/c or an engine change. Too many ex Honda owners expecting bolt on horse power.

I think Im goin to buy another used 8 and create a new screename and come on here without doin a lick of research just to see what it feels like to ask stupid questions that have been asked hundreds of times and get flamed...
I wonder what it would feel like...

As has been said multiple times so far, you need a turbo, supercharger, or engine swap for that target number.

Stop right here. Budget and heavy engine modifications don't belong in the same sentence. Before you make ANY changes to your car consider you will be voiding your 100k mile warranty and running at risk from any future modifications. That includes possibly blowing an engine. Take the base cost of the modification you are interested in and double it, chances are you will end up paying a lot more than you expect even if things go well.

Turbos are no more dangerous than any other form of FI. You have the exact same chance of blowing your motor with an improper tune of a supercharger or nitrous setup. All of these options have risk associated with them which can be lessened to some extent by doing your homework and making knowledgable decisions about your build.

You (like most people posting on this forum about FI) don't sound remotely ready to begin a project of this magnitude. Do the research on available options, learn what is possible with the car and make an informed decision. My general thought is that people who are unwilling to read the STICKIED posts in this exact forum before posting about forced induction have no business messing with their engine.

you'll probably get two things - you'll either get flammed or ignored - heck, you could just ask apocolypse how he feels whenever he's on the forums

You sir have wisdom. People that can't read should stay with their Honda cars and dream of speed. Wait until he finds out what the cost will be.....again we will hear from him looking for cheaper ways, just like all the other ex Honda owners that can't read.

K&N typhoon 2 intake with cold air duct
headers
midpipe
catback
wires
coils

all made 211whp according to the previous owner, he did show sheets as well....

2 grand in crap to gain 40whp- the exhaust sounds good at least...which i dont care about

I would believe the 300hp NA is not obtainable for cheap.

i do have 65hp Nitrous wet shot......now thats when the smile comes on
but 600 dollars for 65hp....makes more sense, and nitrous done right is VERY reliable...meaning dont pass 75hp jetting with only a wet kit and a plastic manifold.....
im working on getting a dyno session to see the results on the juice.
I will post them for you man so you can get a solid idea of a cheap medium hp increase.

and for the love of god, if you spray, only flip the switch AFTER 5000rpm
