The least CAI problems?
 

I have been reading about the MS, AEM and Injen CAI. They talked about how the MS and AEM will possibly suck up water if it rains bad or if you go through a deep puddle.

I want the louder better sounding one with the least problems. Which one is the better choice? Also is the water really that big of a concern?

are you going to be driving through 8" deep puddles?
i've had my AEM for a year and have had no problems with puddles or rain.
i'd go with MS or AEM for a true CAI

I know right? Its not like the intake is so low that a tiny puddle will get sucked up. I have the MS intake also and I've only had some little problems like if I go to the carwash and they soak it or if its just raining a ton and it gets soaked, it gives a hiccup if I try to get on it too hard. Not really an issue for me though because in the rain I need to take it easy anyways.

I have had mine for about 8 months and have never had a problem with sucking up water/ snow (I'm in CO). As for the car wash thing, I throw a plastic bag over the filter before I wash it off, that way my filter doesn't get wet. A couple of times the Dealership washed it and the filter was wet and it still drove fine.

I believe the Injen is a SRI not a CAI. If you want a louder intake you will probably want the Injen. The In jen is also going to give you hotter IAT than stock becuase the filter sits in the engine bay and you may actually lose power. If you want a colder IAT and a proven (1-2hp/tq gain) for your renny get the MS/AEM. My .02....

Water would have to be halfway up your door in order for it to get sucked through the AEM CAI.

If the filter element gets soaked via rain, the car wash or whatever it can cause problems above 6,000 RPMs as the MAF will read the incoming water as air and dump a metric ton of fuel into the motor.

Either way, it's impossible to hydrolock the rotary so it's fine. A little water is actually good. Cleans out the carbon!

I had water interfere with my MAF sensor when I had the AEM.
I accelerated and water that collected at the bottom rushed up the intake pipe.
My engine started bogging like crazy and flashing the CEL.

I had to remove and dry the intake pipes.
The filter had to be air-dried for a couple days (it was pretty bad).

I ran with the AEM for a couple years in the rain and even through car washes with no problems.
It wasn't until the dealer washed my car and must have directed the water flow straight at the filter.
Part of the sock was pulled-back and exposed the element (which I assume happened from the direct water pressure).

I like DarthRX8's idea about using a plastic bag over the filter while washing your car.
It can save you headaches later.

yup and they are free from the grocery store or walmart. I always have a bunch in my trunk!

yea i have the MS and i like it alot. and no problems with water either.

btw it does come with a water sock that you put over the filter. not sure of the actual name of it but water sock sounds good lol.

You should take a look at the new PRM intake. It's an easier install, right now it's less expensive, makes the same power, runs great and doesn't have the same potential water problems.

I've been running it for a few weeks (it was just released), and no problems at all. If you want a comparison Thumper3322 had the MS intake and swapped it for the PRM.

Anyways it does not go all the way down into the bumper. It ends right there at the inlet hole. You don't have to remove the front bumper to install the intake. That being said some people who are running the kit have removed all the VFAD ducting. If you want to do that you do have to pull the bumper.
