K&N = sexy sound but no additional HP if you are looking for that.

Nope.

And on hot days when your car is really warm, you will feel a loss in power.

The K&N is a short ram and it sucks in warm engine bay air. Your intake temps actually increase over stock.

WHat I did to rectify that issue was install a ram air duct, now its a cold air intake.

AAChaoshand 01-26-2009 08:51 PM

Did you do that yourself or have the body cut by a rotary specialist?

Renesis07 01-26-2009 08:56 PM

I did it myself with a battery powered dremel

Its actually just sitting in the hole in those pics, it looks better now that its actually sits flush with the bumper.

AAChaoshand 01-26-2009 08:59 PM

Hmm, man I'm afraid to tear into my frame though, I was going to do something like that but I think I will stick with the ram duct by itself.

silverbullet04 01-26-2009 09:34 PM

Is there anyway I can fix this problem? Without cutting into my bumper? Would making some kind of enclosure for it work?

AAChaoshand 01-26-2009 09:38 PM

Yeah, I considered taking my car up to Dallas to a pro shop called Rotary Performance, great mechanics there, all they work on are rotarys and have been doing so for quite some time now.

silverbullet04 01-26-2009 09:40 PM

So making some kind of plexi enclosure wouldnt work keeping the hot air out?

toneskii707 01-26-2009 09:51 PM

if you get this intake get the RB air duct it will help out on those hot ass days. I can hear the intake over the agency power exhaust at times.

chadrortvedt 01-26-2009 09:52 PM

Hey man check out the Racing Beat ram air intake duct. I had to pull my front bumber but it works wonders with my K N short ram. The intake gives you 10 horse, no bullshit... and the filter is carbon fiber. It also makes some crazy break up noises at high RPMS but it doesn't lose power. Worth it-Chad sends

silverbullet04 01-26-2009 09:54 PM

Yea I got one.. I will for sure look into the Racing beat intake duct... Im glad to hear you dont loose any HP and that u gain some... so excited

AAChaoshand 01-26-2009 11:03 PM

LOL adds 10HP, yeah okay... Did you dyno that, show some evidence, it's nearly impossible to get even 3-5 from a intake.

COURTESY OF ME

This intake DOES NOT ADD 10 HORSEPOWER.

Maybe if its 40 degrees outside, your car is barely warmed up, you have a ram air duct, your intake is fully enclosed to avoid sucking in warm air, and you were using 100 octane racing fuel, you MIGHT see a 10 horsepower gain. MIGHT.

I estimate a loss of 5-10 horsepower without a duct when the car is fully warmed up and maybe a 1-3 horsepower gain with a duct to feed cold air into it.

This is coming from someone who has owned one for a while now, my car felt better with the stock intake. Lucky for K&N, I think this intake looks badass so I kept it on my car.

DarthRX8 01-27-2009 02:23 PM

^^^^After also having this intake you will not, I repeat will not gain 10 hp. You won't even feel a difference in performance only in sound.
