From K&N to RB revi intake
 

Has anyone had a K&N intake and switched to a Revi intake. I know the revi has been getting great reviews, but i dont really see anyone saying that they really feel the extra power, more like subtle additions in power. The typhoon has a claimed increase max increase of about 9hp and the revi has 7hp, but the average is only 2hp. If anyone has switched from the typhoon to the revi, why did you switch, which do you feel has more power, and how noticeable are the increases in loudness on both.

I asked someone at the Mazfest, and they said all the increase was at the top end.

He couldn't feel any difference in the mid range.

EDIT: that's with the K&N intake, all he could get was top end speed. His 2nd car is an RX7 with 600hp

Is that for the revi intake? the opinions for the revi vary so much. Some say there are indeed big increases felt and others say only in top end. :(

Honestly from installing and driving the REVi intake, there may be a slight increase but it really isn't enough that you can definitely feel it with any degree of certainty on it's own. It does sound nice and the car does rev smoother but it really isn't so much that you are noticably faster. No intake is. The K&N may make more absolute peak horsepower more than the REVi but it doesn't do it over nearly as wide am rpm range. Peak power is really only good for selling product. More average power is what makes you faster. The REVi should give you more average power but still don't expect either of them to be terribly noticable. If you buy either intake expecting a very perceivable increase in acceleration, you'll be disappointed. All intake gains are small. The REVi system just gives you a small gain over a larger area.

I am very close to switching

i share mikeb's sentiments. the revi just looks like it has put so much r&d into the whole system that im very tempted as well. i have the RE intake and i love the sound, but i do kinda have a funky idle and cel light.

What I've noticed from my installation this past weekend is that the engine feels to spin more freely then before (which I guess would be the same as smoother), I think this gives the impression of more power throughout the rpm range. Once thing is for sure, I no longer have the hesitation at 6000 RPM when shifting at redline that I had before.

Some have reported a bit better gas mileage, I do see signs of this possibility but will see after todays fill up.

I have given up on anything in terms of better gas mileage. Its not TOO bad in the 8 anyway. Power comes first, gas mileage second.

Me too, the last tank I tried to see the worst mileage I could get, that was fun. :D

I have now hit 20 mpg with the Revi intake at around 67mph. In fact I think I can get a little more.

You have to be driving on a long trip to get this.

Best milage before this was 18.5, but I never took as long as a trip so I would guess I getting more mpg. How much can't tell. Maybe .5
