Agree 100%. Anyone using metal pipes with the intention of having a "cold air" intake is ignorant about how much heat soak is being absorbed by the engine. These cars also run very hot, so it's just exacerbates the issue. You're going to get much higher intake temperatures, and lose power. Period.
Use carbon, plastic, or at least heat wrap it or block it somehow... |

I would recommend the aluminum film, second from the top
Heat Reflective Film at Thermal Protection, Inc. Unfortunately the local shop only had the first gold film in stock and I couldn't wait. My Bling Bling Team Gold Toaster Machine intake box would make even Ice T proud to own .... :lol2: . |

Buy 1 sheet of 24x48 of this : https://www.onlinemetals.com/merchan...id=7125&step=4 It is exactly what i bought. Came out to just a dollar or two over $30. Tinsnips will make your life easier. and get yourself some cardboard so that you can model out the design. Measure twice, cut once, and voila. and you will have some metal left over for other odds and ends. I wanted the look of not having a tray... but i didnt like how at low speeds/not moving the intake would get the hot air from below... so i made a tray out of polycarbonate. V1 sucks... i know.... V2 however will be pretty sweet when i remove all of the brackets and i make the bottom curved and 1 continuous piece.. Might even make a cute little sumtin' sumtin' so the coolant overflow doesnt splash on my tray. also polycarb just fyi starts losing properties and starts melting at around 240ish i believe. Ive had the tray in for almost 6months and no signs of it coming even close to melting. EDIT: ignore the electrical tape under my MAF... Unless its the OE tray or integral to the allowed CAI that might be considered add'l radiator shrouding which would not be allowed under the STX ruleset

The thread may have been better received if it had been structured as a DIY in the proper forum area. I'm pretty sure nobody ever made one on this particular subject. Somebody more experienced would have likely pointed out that you neither have to fully remove either the bumper cover or the bumper bar to install this. I looked and could not find a DYI on this, also can't find any info on non removal of bumper cover or bar. Would you have any details on this? (bumper bar and cover)???? |
