ACT Clutch package + Counterweight + Flywheel.

I have 2004 mazda rx8 with stock clutch.

However, I finally got sicken tired of the stock clutch system.

Anybody here using ACT heavy duty clutch?

Just want to hear about ACT clutch !

but I dont really see the point of going to ACT HD setup if u're just going NA.

the stock clutch is pretty nice. you'll not be driving your rx8 as smoothly with the HD clutch. It can be done, but the chances of you screwing up will be increased.

I heard... maybe I should of get exedy clutch..

since 8 is my daily driving car lol

I use my 8 as my daily driver too.

I got used to the ACT HD the day after the installation.

but stock clutch is easier to control

is that right? ah...

I am not trying to make this an advertisment but there are two main differences with the ACT that you will probably feel:
1. Stiffer pedal but not objectionable. With pressure plate design, you either give up clutch life or pedal effort to get increased clamp load. We balance the two to get a significant gain (an honest 34%) without the loss of clutch life.
2. Quick but smooth engagement. The distance between where the clutch starts to engage and where it is fully engaged is reduced. This provides for quicker shifts and less need for adjustment while still keeping the clutch very streetable.

dirk, at idle with the clutch not depressed, I sometimes hear a chatter sound. Is this normal? I think I read somewhere that its normal but if you are here, I may as well find out from the source directly :) I have the hd clutch and prolite flywheel. The chatter goes away when I clutch in.

I just wanted to check before bringing it to the dealer and asking to make sure the bolts in the tranny are tightened properly.

no idea if its the same or not. The best I can describe it is it sounds like something is loose and rattling around in the transmission. Jeff heard it when he was here, maybe he has a better description. If its normal, I don't mind it. I just want to know if I should be worried or not.

What it sounds like you are describing is gear noise from torsional vibration. If that is the case, there is no harm caused by it. Two thoughts come to mind.
1. Did you also install a lightweight flywheel by chance? A lighter flywheel will also increase the noise since it doesn't do it's job of dampening out torsional vibrations as well as a heavy flywheel does.
2. Our clutch disc uses stronger springs which don't dampen out no-load torsional vibrations as well as the weak stock springs. We get very few complaints and the stronger springs help to dampen out torsional vibrations under higher loads.

btw I don't notice much change in clutch feel with the HD clutch, so while it grabs more and quicker, it's not like I'm building huge giant left leg muscles. :)

I used a Centerforce clutch and I am very happy.

you probably got some really strong legs to being with :P

cuz the day my clutch changed, is the day that Im like *whoa, this shit is heavy* and I stalled like a mofo on the streets .... *shame*

After a day, well, technically I got used to it after a night of driving, cuz when they're done installing it was already almost 6pm.

meh, Im going to change my clutch back to stock soon anyway. :)

just got my car back yesterday..

it release the clutch too soon lol!!
