Intakes - apologies in advance...
just so everyone knows, i DID search and i DID do a good amount of research before posting this, but i still have a few questions. https://www.rx8club.com/newthread.ph...ewthread&f=23#
i've narrowed it down to 3 options: (1) stock + revi ram + k&n filter (2) revi + revi ram or (3) aem. i understand the power, or lack there of, and am strictly going for sound. bascially my concern is the aem is TOO loud for me and the rb is TOO quiet. i emailed rb and they wouldn't send me a sound clip - said they "didn't have one" which is stupid to me, but anyway ... i did manage to find someone's video of the aem in the car w/ the windows rolled up, but can anyone post their sound clips/videos of any one of these set ups?? puh-lease!! oh, and does scenario (1) sound ANY different than stock or is that not really worth it? thanks in advance to anyone that can help ease my frustration!! |

the only thing I don't like about the aem is that it's in the direct path of water if you're driving in the rain. I haven't heard anyone mentioning problems with it, but it rains a lot here in Tampa and I'd rather avoid it. I now run with a k&n filter jammed into the front bumper (greddy turbo - so couldn't retain the revi). It's not in the direct path of airflow, but the intake temps are just about ambient, so a ton better than engine bay air. |
had no problem with my AEM and it sounded like a crotch rocket at high rpm (music)
there's really no way it can be too loud...... if you think it's too loud then let off the gas |
Had the AEM. Now have the REVi. The AEM is too loud for how slow the car is. The REVi mates this motor perfectly with sounds and looks.

i think the revi makes some noise, but you can only hear it with a stock exhaust..
beers  |

and "let of the gas"??!! n-e-v-e-r .... |
i have bad news for you then... clips are not going to help. you will have to hear them in person...
clips are ok for tone.. but not loudness... beers  |
+1. I, too have been dying to hear the RB intake. I hear the K&N Typhoon 2 is loud, but how loud can an intake--by itself--be? That said, many say the RB is quiet. How quiet? Decibel numbers don't really mean much to me as I'm not a sound tech. So a clip would be cool to listen to. I don't know anyone else with an RX8 so listening to it inperson is out of the question. Also, before I invest $400 for--basically sound--I'd like to hear what I'm paying for. I mean for about $400 and 1-2 HP, I'd like some sounds. Maybe not obnoxious, ricey sounds but an increase and focus on sound nonetheless.

i used to redline my car just to hear the revi.. now i hear the exhaust.. it is related.. beers  |
Thanks Swoope. You've helped me out before and trust your advice. However, I am not planning on changing my exhaust system. I know one affects the other and that both is optimal for flow & "breathing" of the car. Unfortunatley, I don't have a taste for the drone of an exhaust system any longer. The exhaust note of the stock is plenty for me at this point in my life. Well, that, and they are very expensive now-a-days.
You say that you had to hit 9K just to notice the Revi? |

You say that you had to hit 9K just to notice the Revi? not at all. with the stock exhaust when you go to full throttle you will hear the revi.. it sound very good. with and without the duct... my guess would be in terms of loud would be. less loud revi kn v2 aem / mazspeed more loud.. btw, those are the ones that seem to not have issues.. beers  |
i have the revi w/o ram air duct. and i can hear it whine (suck in air) occasionally when i am not stomping on the gas.

note: If I'm wrong, please correct as this is what I've always been told? |
sounds cool.. and very noticeable at wide open throttlle..
beers  |
AEM all the way, but i may be a little bias since i have one....
just the tsunami front bumper not too long ago, and since the opening is bigger the Intake is more exposed.... and revving it you get a insanely nice sucking noise... i have the greddy sp2 aswell which is considered "really" loud, but i think its a nice setup |
