Im Soon To Get A Muffler.Advice? Experiece? Prices?Opinion?

So im not really looking into changing up the entire cat system/exhaust system all together but merely looking to add sum nice sound to the 8. Im looking to spend around $100 on the mufflers with the price of installation included in that 100$. Im not looking for a big hp gain or any power gain whatsoever. Im just simply looking for alot of bang for my buck, so to speak, literally. lol. I want my 8 to sound like it should. Nothing too loud that blocks away you can hear me coming but something loud enough to turn heads.

Iv been listening to video clips of greddys, hks, flowmasters etc but havent really been attracted more so to one over the other. i really want a deep clear sound.
Any body have an recommendations?

Can you post sum links of sum mufflers you suggest. and prices as well
Ifyou live around la habra ca, an installer recommendation would be greatly appreciated.

iv seen the ones on ebay that sell for 30$ each which in the 8's case = 60$+ installation...so i wonder how those sound...such as n1's....any one already experience them

how much should be a good price for installaiton round here in so cal?weldiing...

thanks in advance...serch around didnt find what i needed in the other posts

I wish you luck in your quest. I looked around for what ended up being almost 6 months and ended up talking with Brice over at Fluid and getting the Agency Power exhaust. $550 shipped and it is the cheapest catback system available for the 8 that I could find. A bunch of the locals stopped over and, for a 12 pack, did the install. The install was easy as pie but with my car being an 07 and never seen a winter I didn't expect them to run into too many problems. If you are looking to have a custom exhaust fabbed up you are going to need 2 mufflers, not just the stock one, as aftermarket mufflers don't have an input in the side and two outputs. You might be able to get someone local to fab one up for you...but you are probably talking about just as much as the AP. Good luck in your question though.

good luck in your search. finding something nice and cheap is going to be hard. I have the the Mazdaspeed exhaust. it's great for when you are cruising or driving lightly. you can barely hear it, but when you get on it, it screams. anyway, i think you should save up some more money that way you can get something a bit nicer. plus, if you get a full cat back you would be able to change it yourself.

o really. how difficult is it o install a catback myself? do i need to weld anything? cuz thats beyond me...like im not exactly a mechanic or nothing like that...can u rate the level of difficulty of this task? i can change out my oil filter n air filter etc but anything more deep im kinda like...?

If an auto tranny rebuild (done properly) rates a 10, a (boinger) engine rebuild a 9, a bolt on turbo kit (no fab) a 4.5-6, and an oil change a 1, putting in a catback is a 1.1-1.2

And you are NEVER going to find a new SS exhaust part for $100 that you can bolt up. Expect to spend $500. Maybe less used.

Phi 03-15-2009 10:48 PM

its pretty simple stuff,if you can loosen bolts your fine.

hmm you seem to no alot bout this type of stuff...as convincing as that is. it seems like all these catback etc parts are gona run me no less than 500$ even if i install it myself...so bak to my original idea...just welding on sum good muffler. any idea for a decent muffler? brand for not too much $

alz0rz 03-15-2009 10:57 PM

sorry man, not for $100.

TheBurkeMan 03-15-2009 10:58 PM

I have a custom "axle back" exhaust with a single muffler. Guess how much it cost me. Yep, $500. You just aren't going to find a quality SS (no aluminized shit), part that will bolt up, for less.

Hell, the parts themselves cost that much.

My suggestion. Save up $500. Watch the FS threads here. Buy one when it inevitably pops up.

My recommendation is Racing Beat, TurboXS...

No disrespect, but I would strongly caution you in the path you chose. I have a strong feeling that you dont know what you are doing. Again, no disrespect.

Have you ever heard a rotary with a cheapo Midas/Minute Muffler?

It sounds like a nasty raspy pissed-off chainsaw.

Anything the corner muffler shop has laying around will be from a V8, which sounds growly and rumbly when unmuffled - I'm sorry to break it to ya, but there is no growly nor rumbly in your future!

.....and the worst thing you could do would be a couple of those old-school glasspack straight thru 'mufflers' - the rotary will incinerate the glass and then blast the melted dust out the back, in a week or two.
Oh, the people a couple of blocks away will love it, the cops maybe not.

The catback uninstall involved the removal of two bolts and five hangers. The install involved four bolts and five hangers. The total process required 2 people and we were done in about two hours and that included a good 30 minutes of eating 3 pizzas and consuming 12 beers.

Zumn posted in a thread where he just put some Tips over his stock tips. They looked a lot better than stock but no sound gain or HP. Check it out

In what way are they decent? Who makes the can? Can someone vouch for the welds? What is the inlet size? Will they fit? How will they sound? how much to they weigh? Where will they exit?

Or is this just about cost?

Um, dude. Those are NOT going to fit without modification. Hell, even WITH modification, you have no idea if they will fit. And are they going to point straight out like that?? There is plastic and shit in the way. Shops with mandrell benders charge out the ass.

Anyway, I was asking those questions to get you thinking. You are paving a crooked, potholed path next to one that is already been travelled. You going to end up spending big money and end up with potentially second rate product. Just buy a used exhaust!

On the other hand, get them and post results.

i really hate to see people buy an expensive sports car and fuck it up with ebay mufflers because they cant afford something that is actually useful.

go buy a honda
