i need fitment help!!! gtspec and weapon r

i just purchased (10 minutes ago) the GTSPEC 6 point strut bar and the weapon r oil catch can....

i want to locate the catch can next to the washer fluid where it is designed to go but idk if it is possible to do that because the bar may restrict it!!! :scratchhe:

It looks like it will work.

Bringing this one back at the request of Mazurfer.

I finished up my install of a catch can today. I started with the Weapon R catch can kit for the Mazda RX-8 but then changed it up a little bit. I did this because I wanted an OEM appearance in my engine bay and the polished aluminum finish on the catch can wasn't going to do that.

I removed the Weapon R emblem and then dropped it off to get it powdercoated flat black. Once I got it back I decided I hated the hose Weapon R provided so I went and got some hose from a local parts store. The hose I got was just a LITTLE too small for what it was being connected to but I did that for a reason as I don't like the look of clamps in an engine bay and this was the way to avoid that. It took a little force to get them on but they are NOT coming off, I didn't need clamps, and they aren't stretching much at all so I'm not worried about them tearing.

I hated the way breather filters looked so I routed some extra hose back to the intake and zip-tied it under the strut tower bar to clean up the appearance some. Because of the size of the can I don't think I'll have to worry about oil being sucked into the intake but that's speculation.

Anyways, here are the pictures:

Nice and stealthy, just like I want it!

Here you can see how I routed the hoses. I over-sized the one going back to the intake just a little so I could route it under the strut tower bar and use zip-ties to keep it in place. You can see it, but it's not as bad as it could have been.

Close up of the catch can itself. It had a Weapon R emblem on the top of it but I removed it. It was only held on by tape so it just took a little time convincing it with a razor blade to come off.

Here you can see how and where I zip-tied it.

i was just starring at the picture of the bar and noticed that it kind of curves to go over the washer fluid...how high does the can sit up? is it the same level as the wf?

invasion08 08-22-2010 10:13 AM

to me it looks like it will work. worst case you modify the bracket on the oil catch can. The oil catch can appears to sit flush with the washer fluid.

yeah sounds like it will work i just freaked out when i looked at it closely.... that mixed with buyers remorse spells unhappyness lol

I found it works, but barely. Even going through the trouble of mounting the RHS tab *under* the black plate (which requires sawing and grinding), the top of the tank doesn't fully clear the GTSPEC corner piece. With a piece of foam between, the corner piece can be tightened, but does push down on the tank top a bit.

I know this is an old post but I am going to install my catch can to my weapon r dragon intake. I couldn't find a good view of what hoses connected to the can besides the oil one. I was curious with the other two hoses on the intake. Do you disconnect the vacuum hose from the intake and connect to the can and then cap the intake?

Loki 10-06-2015 04:59 PM

You disconnect the vac line from the intake and connect to the catch can. Then you make a new vac line and connect it from the other port on the catch can to the intake.

But, also, you're better with the stock intake than the Weapon R hot air intake.

The can i got which was a cheap JDM one only has 2 connector holes. So should I have a can that was 3 connections?
I haven't had any issues with the weapon r one but I obviously saved the stock one just in case. And thanks!

Ok so im using your photo cause we have the same intake but my hoses and wires caught fire and i bout got it all fixed but i have NO idea where the circled hose leads too, i have the one that connects right next to the fuel rail and injectors but I looked all online and cannot figure out where i need to connect it too.
