How to shift faster and easier ?
When street racing and drifting, downshifting I miss gears, sometimes don't shift properly, and feels stiff.
I've changed the clutch to Act HD and Act HD pressure plate, ACT prolite flywheel, and feel power but not easy to shift. What can I do or replace to feel the shift a lot soft and faster. I've heard about the short shift , but what does this actually do? Will I be able to shift faster and easier than stock for drifting purposes. |

He's from Puerto Rico street racing is legal there, but not in here. Yes, to the short shifter get the AFE it's very precise.

Change tranny oil? And get the short shifter if you like shorter and tighter gearing like most people, it's probably better for you.

The AFE short shift kit reduces the throw and improves the feel of the shifter.
Add the Voodoo knob and the throw is very quick and precise. |
Takes some driving lessons.
Learning to shift correctly is pretty hard to teach via a forum post I would think. I know I need some, and as a matter of fact I'm trying to schedule some for this summer. The AFE will help you if you're shifting well already and want reduced throws between gears so you can shift faster. HOWEVER, if you have problems with the stock setup, going to the AFE will make it worse since the throws are shorter, requiring more effort going into gears. Bad combo to have problems going into gear then adding more effort to do it. |

Thanks neXib, next week I will defenitely drain the tranny oil, and put in Royal Purple, also short shifter is on it's way by this friday, hope to get it by thursday so I'll make it to the Speed Show on Saturday at the beach. Will let you know how this went. |

I don't know what the voodoo knob is, but I noticed on my previous car when I changed the gearknob to something lighter it was actually a lot easier to shift fast, as long as you knew where you were going it went smoother into gear ;)

no.
a heavier shift knob will help you shift, because its weight will help the shifter fall into gear easier.sh ifting is all about leverage. if you attach a weight to the end of a 10 foot pole, its harder to keep it straight than if the weight were right next to you. same idea here, attach a heavier weight to the end of shift knob and it will want to fall down into gear quicker. whatever. i have the mazdaspeed shift knob and im very happy with it. of course, its also a very heavy knob, so is the oe shifter. compare the weight of our OE knob to a bmw shift knob. our's is at least 5x heavier. prx8, drive slowly up each gears RPM range. noting where X Gear is at XX MPH. things happen too quickly when racing to check your speed, but this is to give you a feeling. for instance, you are cruising in 6th at 75mph and want some power. you would put the shifter into neutral and quickly rev match to ~8000 rpm and then stick it in 3rd. once you have a feeling for what speed relates to what gear to what rpm you'll have an easier time down shifting. always rev match when downshifting. |

Drive in traffic. Find the busiest street you can and drive it every chance you get.
If pedal finesse is your problem you can try running or lifting weights. Making your legs stronger will help with controling the car. |

what short shifter will do is make your shift shorter. it good to get, but i think practicing will be cheaper option
