How much better is the BHR midpipe ??
Looking to get a midpipe right now. And i cant justify paying 500 bucks on one (student budget :tear:). According to alot of people the BHR is alot better than other midpipes such as the turboxs, or racing beat.
I had my eye on a turboxs midpipe cause they go for cheap but i was wondering how much of a difference performance wise one would see using the turboxs as opposed to a BHR. Also in terms of sound anyone have feedback on how it sounds ?? Apparently its ricey from what i heard. At the end of the day i know you get what you pay for and BHR makes exceptional products but isnt a midpipe a midpipe. |
Turboxs is a nightmare! If you love your car then you cant do that to it! Buy the racing beat or bhr!

It's not a nightmare, just loud. But what he hell do you expect.
I have the TurboXS exhaust with the BHR pipe and it sounds perfect to me (I am turbocharged though). The BHR just doesn't get raspy. My SR midpipe got raspy over time and the TurboXS midpipe is raspy (duh) out of the box. But there are other options as well. You could just have a BHR resonator welded into a Turboxs midpipe. Heck I know a couple of people with TurboXS mipipes laying around, they are pretty much worthless since they only work with the TuboXS catback. Unless you modify it that is. My favorite combo was the HKS and BHR midpipe combo. I regret selling my HKS now that I am turbo (quiets things down quite a bit). Videos don't tell the whole story but here are a couple. |
thanks for the input Scott. Got a ride from a buddy with BHR midpipe and Mazdaspeed exhaust and i really felt the car pulling alot more at higher rpms than mine does with just a Cat-back.
Not to mention the flames that shot out of his tips as he drove away. |
I have an AP dual-resonated midpipe, and it is raspy from about 3k-5k under WOT. No videos though (sorry). Super noticeable, and not my favorite sound at all. I wish I had spent the money on a cat-less BHR instead, just because I wouldn't get the high-pitched raspyness. But I also like the sound of the 8 stock.
My buddy has a BHR catted midpipe and loves it. You wouldn't know it wasn't a stock replacement if he didn't tell you. The thing I found is it's hard to hear in the videos, but if you can hear it, it's going to be louder in person. Oh, and another thing, the AP (I don't know about all midpipes) didn't come with any hardware and had to have the flanges drilled out to fit the stock bolts through. If you can't re-use your crush and donut gaskets, you'll need new ones. I do get a flame out the back too, but only when I want to waste a bunch of gas at 7500-8k |

I know which one I would choose. :suspect:

I could only live with my AP midpipe for a few weeks until RIWWP hooked me up with his BHR. That thing sounded terrible.
|
There is more punch above 6000 rpm for certain, it's not life changing but it is at least noticeable. The sound is very close to stock (BHR with cat).
Coming from an ms3 where each bolt on added gobs of power I've prepared myself to enjoy the power as it is and make only minor mods that I will appreciate |
thanks for saving me from the AP as well. I was also considering that lol.

I have no experience with others, but FWIW I have the BHR resonated midpipe with stock exhaust.
There's a bit of a hiss sound, normal I gather, but I would describe it as slightly louder, slightly deeper tone than OEM cat. Love the sound at WOT. Fit and workmanship is excellent. I would recommend it. |
buy the cheapest midpipe you can find and have one of the welded in it (not a glasspack, click & read)

alright so my cars been acting up lately. Losing power after 5k rpm with a weird screaming noise. Im assuming my CAT is gone. I was going to take it off and check it out and gut it but im thinking of just swapping it for a midpipe.
NOw i have the exoticspeed midpipe as some of you know its pretty loud. IM thinking either BHR or RB midpipe (without the reasonator). ANyone have the RB racepipe with exoticspeed cat back ?? Im worried itll be waaaayyy to loud. |
I have a AP Duel Res midpipe i like it.... I also run the TXS exhaust... it is loud not too much drone but it is there.. So today I welded in a 20" x 3" dia resonator after the mid pipe and it sounds perfect in my opinion... The Res I got from an Subaru exhaust I never used..However Im not sure how long it will last. It is further back in the exhaust system so I hope it will see slightly cooler temps but who knows. ill update with how long it last... My AP mid pipe is still going strong after over a year of use..

I'm running a TXS cat back with BHR mid-pipe on NA RX-8. I had an TXS mid-pipe with exhaust and removed the exhaust after one day ... Tone was too loud, neighbors complained .. Not good for a daily driver
Couldn't be happy with TXS + BHR |
quick question .. for charles maybe or anyone else who may know the answer.
If i order the BHR midpipe WITH the catalyst. Any difference in performance as opposed to running it without the catalyst ? Im assuming no flames as well with it right and different sound? Also, would i be able to past emmisions with the catalyst BHR offers. |
it's this much better:

^+1
definitely give ray a buzz directly. |
cool thanks boys
|
Does anyone know if you can you shoot flames from a BHR midpipe WITH the catalyst? Also, are there any known problems with the catalyst version?
