How do you tell if a Cobb tuner has been unmarried from a car?

I have a chance to buy a Cobb tuner from a fellow RX8 owner that totalled out his car. The Cobb is the only thing he has left from the car and I would really like to have it, trouble is I dont know if he got the chance to "unmarry" it from his car. How did I tell if he did or not? :scratchhe

Thanks for your time!

Im not sure how to tell, but the unmarrying process is pretty simple. Does his car still function? It its completely totalled, and the ecu is toast, then I believe you need to send it off to cobb. He needs to be able to plug it in and uninstall using the menu on the access port.

He had to have plugged his cobb, and assuming is ECU wasn't fried and he could at least turn the key to ACC, should have simply unmarried the cobb and it's as simple as that. Ask him if he unmarried it, if he says yes, then when you go to buy it, before you pay him or anything tell him you want to install it on your car. If it reads your car and you can change the tune maps, then it's unmarried and can be married to your car. If not, then it's still married to his ECU if you can't change your maps. If he can't unmarry it for whatever reason, I don't think it'd be worth the hassle unless you get it mad cheap. Cobb will charge you for them unmarrying it.
