Short SHifter??

I've browsed the forum recently to try get info on the Axial Flow Short Shifter. It seems that people really like this product, and I just wanted to get any further opinions on it. What I really want to know, which is kind of a stupid question, is if it's worth it?? I know it reduces shifting times, and mistakes, but seeing as though the 8 already has a pretty short shifter, is it that noticeable?? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

it's very noticeable. my advice is depending on where you live, go to a meet and hope someone there has it to try out.

Yes, it's noticeable every time you drive the car and worth every penny.

I had the same concerns before buying the Short Shifter. It's very noticeable and absolutely worth every penny.

Sorry it will not work on the 5 speed. We looked at that but never had a gearbox here to work with. Turns out it is similar to the Rx7 but not exactly. We sent one of our 7 shifters to our Euro distributor and it wasn't the same.

thanks everyone for the comments, really encouraging to me to get one now! do forum members get any sort of discount by any chance?? and i have sat in a toyota mr2 spyder, which had an after market short shifter, and i presume it should feel about the same, you barely have to move your hand to change gears, s it the same case with the rx8 SS?

I think the best description I've heard for Richard's Short Shifter is that it's similar to a 'bolt action rifle'.
Where are you located? Maybe a local forum member has one that you could check out

o, its noticeable. my friend sent his car to the shop and the dumbass guy there thought it wasnt going into gear, so he violently jiggled it and broke a piece off the short shifter. LUCKILY my friend made it home w/o crashing, and thank god for the lifetime warranty.

I had mine for three years, and I still go "oooh yeah!" when I change gear and then smile.

Its a great mod, and a DIY-able one too.

If you bought the 8 because you like the sports car feel, the look and the fun... then buy the shifter. If you bought your 8 because they were all out of Speed3's... go with something else

In all seriousness, best bang for the buck mod you'll do to your car.

It is definitely worth it. The stock shifter feels "loose" compared to the RP SS. If you want a nice tight precise feel and want to become one with the car, this is the mod that bonds you to your car.

My car car is in getting the throwout bearing replaced. This was the perfect time to have the shop put ia shifter in for me. Called RP yesterday and he is sending one out. It should be here today or tomorrow. RP actually answers his own phone. Great guy to talk to.
