Which head unit??
 

Ok ive decided to dive into a supercharger for my car.Ive asked my friend who owns a machine shop amd 2 superchargerd cars if he thought he could handle it.His responce "no problem" so now i need to decide on a head unit to use.This may be a more then one made kit if all gos well with the first.Ive seen 3 or 4 turbo kits being made @7k or so and ive crunched some numbers and a supercharger could be done for far less.


So i ask you guys which head unit to use and why?

Think ive decided on a whipple,but im still open for suggestions.Looked at just about everything out there and screw type whipple seems to be best application.Screw also has best for low end low rpm torque which we need the most.

The Whipple is my favorite form of supercharging. You might be able to get away with the 1600 for smaller performance gains but I would really recommend their 2300 unit. The rotary does not flow the air of a 1.3 liter engine but is much closer to a 4 liter in flow. This number overlaps the capabilities of either the 1600 or the 2300 Whipple. I would rather go for the higher size just to be safe.

I would also find a way to design an air/water intercooler into the plenum under the supercharger. This wouldn't be that hard as you can retrofit an oil type of cooler into the plenum to work as a sort of membrane style chiller. Just use another small radiator in the front of the vehicle with a bilge type of pump to circulate coolant. If you really want to have some fun, put a thermostat in the coolant system so that the pump only runs when the water temperature at the plenum gets too high. Use your imagination here.

Definitely use a bypass valve for when you are not under boost as well. You need some sort of fuel economy.
