have an exhaust question....please help

i went to a local muffler place and asked if they could "custom" build me and exhaust for my 8......the aftermarket ones online are just too expensive for no hp gains........when i went to talk to them, they refused to do it, because they said that these cars have a backpressure issue, and if you do an exhaust and don't get the back pressure right.....it will hurt the cars performance ????

anyone know of this ????

thanks

go to a different shop

i've been to these guys several times for the different cars i've owned....and they are really good......but the first thing they asked was that it had the rotory right ?

Most of the "backpressure" will be in the stock manifold, CAT and midpipe. By the time it gets to the exaust...it isn't really an issue per say. Length will make a difference I think

Somewhat disagree. I had my exhaust off completely for a few days and noticed the lack of back pressure. It was like I pressed on the gas but didn't have anything behind me pushing me. I don't think it's rocket science as to what type of custom exhaust you need, I think any exhaust will help with the back pressure. I don't think you need a special one. Go to a different shop.

You do realize that even if you took out the mufflers completely you are only going to get like 4-5 hp. Racing Beat already tried this.

Maybe they were confused and thought you had a turbo. If so, they probably didn't want to run the risk of detonating your engine.

i'm not to sure.....i'm not looking for any horsepower gains........just want some sound....

XDEEDUBBX 03-29-2005 02:11 PM

if you want sound and don't want to spend any money...try gutting your stock exhaust by taking out all of the baffle....

Mikelikes2drive 03-29-2005 04:10 PM

if u want sound... just changing the muffler can do that and would be much cheaper.

i think i saw on a midas commercial about them doing full cat backs for like 200 dollars :D mayb theyll do it on the 8?

gxsilver 03-29-2005 04:15 PM

ya, thats all i wanted was to maybe weld in two new "flowmaster or magnaflow" free'er flowing mufflers.................

Fanman 03-29-2005 04:33 PM

Or gut you cats. That will give you a louder sound & more hp...it also may set off your CEL & is illegal but it will definitely make it sound louder.

Drill holes in your muffler, it'll give you tons of sound!!!!!
