Greddy SP2 Exhaust sound ricey?
 

Hey guys, I installed my Greddy SP2 and Rotary Performance Supercat pipe yesterday and I absolutly love the sound of my exhaust, however, does the Greddy SP2 system sound ricey to those who have it? I don't know, I love the low and deep growl it has up until around 4-5k and then it starts to get high pitch and turn "ricey" Is there a way to eliminate that "ricey" sound yet keep the volume of the exhaust note/deepen it at higher rpms?

mine sounds great nice and deep all the way thru, maybe its the midpipe, but with stock midpipe mine sounds great, i will let you hear it if i get the b and b and we will compare. talk to ya later homie

hmm, I think if it sounds high pitch and sounds a chainsaw that would sound like a civic. Not sure how you can elimanate that sound. To be honest I suspect the high pitch noise is from the supercat. The greddy sp2 alone sounds loud but not high pitch, like I mention in your previous thread(s) regarding this, you should have got the exhaust to see if its loud enough then go buy the rp supercat. I would probably recommend welding a resonator to tone down the buzzing. I've also read the noise does tone down after a certain amount of driving so maybe you can wait it out and it will get better. Either way I want to hear how it sounds. :)

It's the nature of the beast. It's a small displacement, high revving engine. It will get high pitched. If you want a nice mellow low tone out of an engine, think "I could of had a V8". Listen to a racing rotary with a straight pipe exhaust and you will hear its true sound. Your ears will bleed and loose half your hearing in the process, but that is the sound of RX power.
Worrying how the car sounds or looks to others, isn't that a "Ricer" attitude?

It will get louder upon burn in, the note is louder between 4k-5k as you indicated but ricey is not a word I would use to describe it. Does your midpipe have a resonator?

The last word I would use is ricey. I have had mine about 3 weeks and hear nothing (at any RPM) that would indicate rice.

I have an automatic and don't get above 6500 RPM very often, but when I do, it sounds deeper and more mellow. A nice low growl with any RPM.

I have had people pull up next to me and comment how nice (some have said "mean") it sounds and wanted to know what the exhaust was.

No rice.

Mazda got rid of the angry chainsaw sound for this car, but, frankly, that's what a Rotary sounds like, especially as you start to open it up - you'll grow to love it. Hop in an RX-7 and you'll thank god for the sound tuning Mazda did on this car.

I have the Greddy exhaust w/B&B midpipe and it doesn't sound buzzy or "ricey." The previous owner had a resonator welded into the midpipe to help tone down the volume, but I think it sounds great and also gets tons of compliments.
