Greddy SE exhaust

hey,
any body out there have a good drive by sound clip of the Greddy SE exhaust? I searched you tube and all the clips are stand still. i'm trying to decide between this and the HKS legamax. Also if any one can give me the pros and cons of each exhaust that would be great. things like overly loud inside the car or melt the bumper shrouds, things like that. would really help i'm not really worried about the price part of it or if one sound overyly quite . thanks guys

Does anyone know how much the Greddy SE weighs?

getdamafiaonyou 04-01-2009 11:56 AM

yeah that's my video. if you want i can make a drive by one later with the camera still.

I'm also interested in how loud the sound actually is (will I be easily noticed by cops)? My car is N/A, will also be using original CAT.

I guess what I'm asking is: is this street legal?

Thanks!

getdamafiaonyou 04-01-2009 09:09 PM

it's the cat back. so yes, it bolts up after the cat. and yes itls legal. and if your cruising you cant even hear it. cops never bother me because of it. i can ride right in front of one and no troubles, but at wot it sounds great. im happy with it.

how does it compare to stock?

i want loud start up, quiet idle and cruising, and loud wot.

my friends v8 (yes yes i know) with magnaflow catback sounds amazing, roars on the start up, then just purrs u unnoticeably till he wants to floor it

getdamafiaonyou 04-02-2009 08:17 AM

I mean it's not that loud at start up. but it is at wot, look on youtube.

Okay so I just purchased the GReddy SE and installed it today and let me tell you, I'm a little less than happy. The install (after you get the stock exhaust out of the rubber hangers) was simple, 2 bolts to connect the GReddy pipe at the catalytic converter and 2 bolts to connect the Greddy pipe to the muffler assembly. Easy, and in my opinion it's the best looking exhaust for the 8. But once I started the car my smile faded away. It sounds EXACTLY the same as stock during startup and idle! Okay then, well I've heard it shines at WOT so I took it out and hit redline a few times and inside the car it is barely noticeable that it's been changed from stock. Outside the car it's a couple of notes different in sound but I'm used to GReddy being loud and deep and this is not the case. As I continue to drive it my girlfriend and I both can tell its got a different tone but I don't think its any louder and I wanted louder. I watched all the GReddy SE exhaust videos I could find on the net and read any post I could find on it but no one really relayed how quiet this exhaust really is. I think most the videos sound louder cause they're in a garage or set the camera right by the exhaust outlet so the sound is louder but in normal everyday use the loudness of the exhaust will not grab attention... ANY attention. I wouldn't say I'm disappointed because this exhaust is great in style, installation, fitment and any other catagory that my butt can feel but the sport car exhaust that's loud and deep is missing. If the stock exhaust sounds great to you but you just want it a little deeper/louder then the GReddy SE is probably what you're looking for, but if you want the noise look elsewhere.

perfect post. thankss!

well if the Greddy SE is let's say one step deeper/louder then stock. What exhausts or be 2,3, or 4 steps ahead of the stock sound ? anyone

Saikane88 05-06-2009 03:58 PM

From what ive heard Borla is good, but im in the same boat you are. I have Greddy on my list against Borla and Blue Flame. other then that i dont see many out there that have a good tone that isnt ricer. =/
In comparison we all know what a Mustang 99-04 Cobra sounds like and tone, considering even a football field away you can still here it down the road. Alot of people are looking for sound depth similar to that for there rx8 but im not sure if it exists without a $1000 exhaust or a Midpipe.
Ill keep looking for a bit b/c i need to order an exhaust by friday, im just curious if i will make the right decision.

if you want loud, get a midpipe
you will grab A LOT of attention then.

DeViLbOi 05-06-2009 05:02 PM

One of the locals has a Greddy SE with midpipe and I hate it. Too ricey for me at wot and too quiet when just tooling around. Personally I have the AP exhaust and am very very happy with the tone and I get nothing but compliments. I am not happy with how mine fits as it is melting the shrouds on both sides, top and bottom, on the pass side but barely on the top on the drivers. Another local has the AP with no problems at all so it is something unique to me. :( The Borla is another great exhaust that a local has. Little deeper than the AP but you do have a drone at highway speed without a midpipe. *shrug* to each is own.

Saikane88 05-06-2009 05:09 PM

Devil you summed it up for me lol, I have a few questions about your AP. I was really close to getting the Greddy but ive recently heard it locally and could barely hear it, even when she got on it and redlined its basically a refined stock sound =/. Im looking for something that people can hear comming and will notice it but not stupid like the hondas running around town. I want good loud tones but not a high pitched rattle. Ive been told before that i should go with Borla, but ive recently discovered Blue Flame. Im open to ALL suggestions on a good exhaust, also looks are a key factor i like exoticspeed but im not brand specific just looking for something that gives me the loud sound with good tones.
With the stock system and even greddy i couldnt hear the car running next to me, i want a system that can be hear when running next to. =D

DeViLbOi 05-06-2009 05:21 PM

I see no questions but I will tell you that the ES is based off of the AP. From behind you really can't tell that I have an exhaust because it isn't a dual walled exhaust so I find that visually appealing. Im not really a fan of the blue tip...but whatever...in a month it will be black anyway. The sound like I said has been only commented on in a positive manner. Even my buddy with the Mustang with Straightpipe and Magnaflow exhaust likes it. The sound has been described by most as "A finely tuned European exhaust" putting it in the specifically in the porsche family. This summer we plan on doing an end to end video of all our local exhausts with different midpipes so you have a single frame of reference for exhaust notes. We are waiting currently on the BHR and RacingBeat midpipes to be released though.

Saikane88 05-06-2009 05:46 PM

Gotcha I understand, right now im looking into AP and Borla, since ES is based off AP then AP will most likely be the best idea to get, considering it has alot of mods out that work well with it. I noticed the exhaust tips are just the metal and not thick, which i kinda like from the side you can see and exhaust but from directly behind you see exhaust ports but no metal due to the thin tips. How is AP vrs Borla as far as loudness which is louder overall do you think? i know compared to greddy you cant even hear the greddy lol

Saikane88 05-06-2009 05:51 PM

I was also thinking, Borla exhaust with ap midpipe or something similar idk what would be best. =/

DeViLbOi 05-06-2009 06:54 PM

Borla has a little deeper tone but not much...volume is about the same. Midpipe is going to change the volume and tone of both however.

MazdaEight 05-06-2009 07:02 PM

That is wierd that you are unsatisfied with the SE limpbozkit. I have the SP2 and I love the sound and have gotten alot of compliments on it. I thought the SE was pretty much the same.

Saikane88 05-06-2009 08:13 PM

Im stuck between Borla, AP, Exoticspeed. they are all loud and have a solid tone. just dunno which to go with lol.

always.anthony 05-06-2009 08:17 PM

how light is this? and the sp2?

+1 for AP exhaust, sounds amazing
the fitment was crap though, i tightened a metal clasp around the rubber grommets in order to lift them off the shrouds and avoid melting

YeahYeahYouWere 05-07-2009 07:18 AM

If you look hard, I think you can still find a few places that have SP2s available - or at least you could the last time I checked. Personally, when it comes time for an exhaust for me (the time is now but my little spending spree needs to halt for a while), I am leaning toward the Borla. Though I haven't looked very closely at the AP exhaust - perhaps I need to do a little research on that one as well.

As for the SE, everything I have seen or heard from it has been slightly underwhelming, except that it is mighty good lookin'.

Saikane88 05-08-2009 04:46 PM

How much louder would the Greddy SE system get if, lets say someone added a AP midpipe?
