Getting to 350 RWHP

Hey guys,

Im here in columbus and I am right next to the rx7store.net

I havent stopped in there yet but I plan to this week.

I saw on their website under performance packages u can get an rx7 to 320-350 RWHP for around 3 thousand dollars.

I am just wondering what modifications I would have to do to get my rx8 up to or close to 350 to the wheels.

My current mods are:
AEM CAI
AXIAL flow short shifter
BHR Ignition coils
Tein Lowering springs
Invidia Exhaust

Also have a catless racepipe on order.

I plan to track this car and not really have it on the road often or at all. What mods would i be looking at to get the results I want?

You would be looking at $15,000ish, plus an engine rebuild about every 10,000 miles, as the only way to get there is with a turbocharger setup, of which not a single complete kit exists without issues that have to have a lot of custom work done to fix it all, and a lot of existing issues with the RX-8 need to be addressed.

Running that much power out of our engine is a perpetual razor's edge, where falling to either side even slightly means you go from a clean smooth engine making great power to a paperweight on the side of the road faster than you can blink.

No, I'm not exagerating or being sarcastic.

~230whp is about the highest you can currently get naturally aspirated. high 200s is the highest you can go with a turbocharger/supercharger and expect decent engine life. Past 300 and you are living on borrowed time, or a hell of a lot of money.

This engine is NOT an RX-7, and that "Peripheral Port" vs "Side Port" difference is the big core point of why they can make power easily and we can't. They can enlarge the exhaust ports, we can't. It's a constant flow restriction that has no solution.

wow thanks for the reply, that was very informative. it saddens me that our cars are so much harder to upgrade though =(

to get to 220-230 what would I have to do?

perhaps you missed that this is not in the correct forum area?

Not to mention covered 100x over in the correct one .... not trying to beat up either you or the OP, but it will only continue to occur if not pointed out ...

I dont see anywhere in the comments that says im in the wrong area. What is the correct area if not aftermarket performance mods.

Cough ..... bit of an exageration there RIWWP . I've been running in the 300-350 range for 6 odd years now . My realistic expectation is the engine will last at least 50,000 miles depending on many factors obviously. Maybe 10,000 if they were all race miles ;)

.

On a stock block yes . If strengthened for boost - they can take a LOT before they go.
