favorite mod (non FI)
so after being FI and going back to stock with the exception of sway bars and a midpipe i have kinda been falling out of love with my 8... just curious what are some of your favorite mods that made you wanna drive your 8 more?
|
af short shifter.
beers  |
+1 AFE short throw...
also i like music, i like to listen to music in my car. so upgrading my cd collection was a pretty good mod. :eyetwitch P.S. stop listening to bad music http://youhavebadtasteinmusic.com/ |
why you went back to stock? i cant wait to get the AF short throw.
the mod i love the most is my exhaust and high flow cat. redline never sound so beautiful. |
he blew his engine.
|
Yep, pretty much what I did as well. Best mod I ever made to the car was either the RB suspension package, or the goodridge stainless steel brakelines.
|
I don't have it, but lower your final drive. You'll be happy :)
|
i was just readin the final drive thread, 1700, dont think so, unless money is burnin your pocket

the stainless steel lines made that much a an improvement? |
ss lines do MAKE A HUGE improvement on brakes. I got them put in when i di my brake job, running russell lines. None of that garbage spongy feeling, i feel like hte car will stop at any speed, with that firm hold. one of my favorite mods.

man its hard to enjoy driving a na 8 after driving a turbo 8 i honestly dont know what u can do to get that love back to ur car, try buying some new wheels and maybe a mazdaspeed kit
|
mazsport ignition kit
|
my fav non FI mod was a turbo kit.
That counts right? The car wasn't FI before I installed it. |
A lightweight flywheel is a fun mod. In my case it was a Mazdaspeed.

^ Why?

Because I have reason to believe my engine was damaged due to the coils not using the same dwell settings as the OEM coils did. This was before there was even any mention of dwell changes or that there was any risk by upgrading the ignition system. Dwell is basically charge time to power up the coils. Since the mazsport coils are not like the OEM coils, they require a different charge time to be set. If your coils don't charge up enough, the spark will be weak. If the leading spark plugs don't fire or the spark is too weak to ignite the fuel, you risk massive detonation when the trailings do. In boost that can cause catastrophic damage.
In two weeks my engine will be torn apart and rebuild from scratch. The engine actually runs fine, and has normal compression, but the front iron housing is cracked and leaks oil. No way to fix it other than to rip out the engine and replace the housing. Yes, for all my random dealings with FI and other performance mods, it was the lowly ignition coil that brought the behemoth down. |
My Mod?
WOULD HAVE TO BE MY LAMBO DOORS. WAiting on my Stage 1 turbo with the works (all mazsport carries) hopefully I can later say "turbo kit"

One of my favorite mods is new underdrive pulley -- seems to deliver better throttle response off the line (less hesitation). I also love the drop and performance of Tein S Tech springs

I haven't installed my mazsport ignition mod yet -- plan to this weekend. I'm NA with a Cobb. Any advice before I install or how I use Cobb with it?
The detonation I experienced was not something that happened all the time, so much like people saying "I didn't flood, therefor my car cannot flood", not having issues doesn't mean you cannot have issues. btw, the issues I had was when I had the int-x, so it could be any combo of things that manifested in the negative outcome. You might not have any problem with the AP. It's hard to say. |
