Exhuast Recommandations
I'm thinking about getting new exhuast pipes for my stock exhuast
I want to know what you guys recommand |
I am very happy with this :D http://www.sendersnj.com/rx8/mike/rx8club/DCP_2079.JPG Sorry read your post again, you just want to change the tips. The OEM tips are welded to the pipes that come out of the muffler. You would have to cut them off and weld / bolt new ones. For the work involved changing the tips only doesn’t seem like a good plan. |
RACING BEAT EXHAUST
I compared it first hand to the Greddy and I must say the Racing Beat one is built slightly better. Also, note this because no one ever does.... The piping is only 60mm on the Greddy, the Racing Beat is significantly larger. (I believe 70mm if I remember right). Either way, the catback pipe and the piping off the canisters is bigger on the Racing Beat. Plus, the tips on the Greddy are a little large for my taste. |
I got Racing Beat & I love it.
|
Love my Racing Beat...
|
where can i find the racing beat exhuast??
i can't find them in rx8garage.net |
I would love to see someone make a side exhaust for the 8. I recommend you do that.
|
racing beat. :D
|
|
i love my racing beat, wouldn't go any other way...but if i did i'd get the greddy if anything cause it's loud.
|
i got a racingbeat and love it but if you want a really LOUD noise where everyone will turn their heads and stare... i would get the magnaflow
|
Don't worry about...
To put my $0.02 in, the only exhausts other than stock that I've heard are MazdaSpeed's, HKS Legamax and Racing Beat's. The HKS was the "meanest" sounding of them all, but those tips are HUGE and they extend a bit further from the rear than I personally like. They definately scream "tuner", though, if that's a factor you're looking for.
The MazdaSpeed was just slightly deeper in sound than stock at idle. When revved, it is louder and has a cool "raspy" note to it's sound...similar to the way a 911 sounds. It definately looks great with "MazdaSpeed" logo etched into the tips...very "factory-sponsored" kinda' thing. The Racing Beat is an ideal medium. It looks great with the car, has a slightly larger bore and sounds awesome all the time. Another plus is it can be bought for cheaper than the other two, but you definately don't give up anything in terms of quality, materials and construction. Good luck with your purchase! Arvin |
I have the Bosal and it has a deep sound at idle and gets down right mean at 7k RPM. I definitely prefer it over stock.

Read the posts and get the exhaust that best provides what you're looking for. I did all the research and in the end I went w/ the RX8store exhaust which is a Magnaflow system. I have always had Magnaflows so I felt comfortable w/ the product. I heard the RB on my neighbors 8 and I wanted to go a little louder...so I rolled the dice. Am very happy w/ my choice, nice sound when I get on it but no drone on my 30 mile commute each day. On cool days, I just roll down the wondows and grin at it's sound. I recommend the post that lists the traits of each exhaust re: loudness, etc. It helped me. I also got it in 4 days...but it is made in Miami and I'm in West Palm.

Greddy. Nicely lowered pitch so now the car sounds as hot as the car looks and drives. And thankfully it's not a screamer in the sound volume. :D
|
The Racing Beat tips are 3.5", which I think looks quite nice for this car. Stock looked a bit small.
|
I love my B&B, had them installed at 3000 miles, still loving it at 17,000 miles now.:)
|
I thank all of you for your time, but I'm afraid I'm going to ask some more dumb questions.
So if i were to get one of those exhaust, do i just take it to local autoshop for installations? How much does it usually cost for installations? What if i get a CEL issue? |
Should take a shop less than an hour to install, so it depends on their hourly rate.
Took me two hours to do it in my garage with simple tools. Exhaust should not cause CEL’s |
I have to put a plug in for the Hymee exhaust. Heard all of the others and liked it the best. As for cost of install, Midas did it for me for $65.00.
|
i'm also looking for a exhaust but i think they all probably sound much different in person and i've only heard stock exhausts in person.
|
The Racing Beat is $600
The GReddy is like $500 from I-M-racing.com if the racing beat is truly wider it should be better for FI, but in the end I think I'm just gonna go custom. |
i just picked up the HKS exhaust system..here's a link to the thread :

I'm sorry but I'm going to have to ask some more again =]
So I think i am most likely to go with Racing Beat. I found one with $575 with 40 bucks for shipping at Rx8store.com Is that all i have to pay?? No tax? just 40 bucks for shipping? and If i order it, how long will it take be delievered to my house? By the way, I live in LA. When I go to autoshop for installation, can i fit those exhaust in my rx8? Trunk seems little tight for those Exhuast pipes. Thanks again guys I appreciate all of you |
call them, i believe i delt with Jason...
|
What do you guys think of the Borla and Greddy exhaust? I'm thinking about those two exhaust systems. I'm looking for a "refined" sound. I don't want it to be too loud or obnoxious sounding, just enough to give me some great power and turn some heads. Let me know.
|
Just put my RB exhaust on today. Very nice unit, hardly noticable at idle or low RPM's but great sound when you put you foot in it.

I bought my RX-8 about a month ago and based on user reviews here I decided to go with the Racing Beat exhaust. I have to say I am very glad I did - it is not louder than stock at lower RPM's but when I put my foot in the gas it sounds fantastic! It's not a cheap sound like some exhausts I hear, if anything it sounds "exotic". I am also very pleased with the Racing Beat customer service, and was so impressed that I have already ordered their REVi intake.
I had a local Midas Muffler shop install it. The box was a bit large to fit into the trunk or backseat so I simply took it out of the box but left it wrapped up inside the plastic and put it in my backseat carefully. |

I was able to find some links that allowed me to listen to the Borla and Greddy exhausts. Do you guys know of any links that would give me an opportunity to hear the Racing Beat exhaust? Also, tell me some more about the Racing Beat exhaust, is it a refined sound? Is it loud, quiet? How is the quality rating?...It sounds like it is a pretty sweet exhaust. Let me know.
|
I say Espelir.
|

I have the Racing Beat and I have to say the build quality is excellent.. I would recommend this exhaust to anyone. As stated above the sound is stock at low with a little rumble but when you get on it, it sounds awesome.

Ditto... Racing Beat is not going to be as free flowing for a FI application...even Jim Langer has stated this...they built this exhaust strictly for a N/A application... I have the Espelir JGT500..actually i was the first RX-8 owner to have this exhaust...It is VERY mean at WOT...there is an awesome low growl when at idle...there isn't any drone and man,..add the Rotary Performance cat-back and some other "stuff" and it will shoot some MAJOR flames...i will tell you this..B&B is one of the most "open" exhausts made for the 8...i don't like it because it makes the car sound like a civic...but the Espelir has just as much through put with out the ricey sound and IMO is made for FI applications...TRUST ME... |
After hearing the Greddy, Borla and Racing Beat exhausts, Greddy gets the slight victory over Borla, and I do mean slight. The Racing Beat exhaust just did not do it for me. I know that might not be popular in this forum, however the quality and "name" behind Greddy and Borla is there. The Greddy and Borla exhausts sounded like a dream (Especially the Greddy). I would choose the Greddy or Borla, probably the Greddy, however the Racing Beat exhaust did sound good.
|
A note about the Borla.. One of the guys at our local meet Autocrosses and he was saying that the connectins on his borla get loose and he has to tighten them from time to time. They are not flanges like the Greddy and RB.
|
Borla
Just installed the Borla cat back on my AT 8. I think the exhaust note is real nice with a kinda low growl at speed and a nice roar on acceleration but not too much noise. Real nice fit and finish on the system too.
