Exhaust install help!

I recently got the HKS hi power single exit exhaust. I took on the task of switching it out alone with one jack. I got the stock exhaust off but when i went to install the HKS the bolt nut that is welded to the flange is to rusted to allow me to but the exhaust back on. :wallbash:I cant really get leverage to break it off and dont want to spend much money any help?? Thank you

you should never be under the car with the jack supporting the car, go out and get 2 jackstands so you dont kill yourself.

which flange are you talking about? What is rusted? You removed the oem exhaust so i assume you mean some bolt is seized to the hks exhaust?

the problem i had with my single is that i had to cut the oem spring bolts to the cat in order for the bolt to fit.

Yes the spring bolts. Theres a nut welded on the other side and the original spring bolt wouldnt go back in. I just ended up throwing a smaller bolt thru and put a nut on the other side. I just didnt use the spring on the one side. theres no leak that i know of

Do you think it will hurt not having a spring bolt on one side? I was thinking of going to get a shop fix it, its just tough to get to it from the ground

Ohhhh, right right.. the nut that is welded on, so there is some rust on the nut you are saying, and that rust is not allowing you to put the original spring bolt into place?

I had to cut the spring for the springbolt to go back into place, did you do this?

I think they make a product kind of like wd40 and you leave it there and it takes the rust off.

you can follow this guide.

Thank you. Im not sure if its just rust or if its stripped somehow because when i removed it, it seemed loose but i believe it just wasnt put in all the way. I didnt cut the spring because the bolt itself wouldnt screw into it. It sounds great and no leak that i know of. Just a slight smell but i believe thats from the new exhaust. (doesnt smell like fuel). I will have a shop give me an estimate before i try again. It was a real pain

yeah getting to that location without 4 jackstands can be a real pain in the ass.

it may seem the bolt isnt going into it, for the life of me i cant remember, but if the spring is removable from the bolt, try just screwing the bolt in. The spring may be the reason it wont go in.

I remember i thought there was some kind of blockage as well.

and yes, new exhausts smell, it will go away soon. Also there is less restriction with the single, and it may just be the rotary smell passing past the cat out the exhaust.

the way you check for an exhaust leak is to put your ear, or just listen for a hissss or well you know, air escaping. you will be able to hear it.

Yeah i didnt hear a leak but I did try attempting to put the spring bolt w/o the spring in there for a while. I even filed down the end a little. No luck but i really appreciate the help

no problem, if you need something else just drop me a pm.

i would try some of that rust spray before you spend money at a shop though.
