So basically wat it does is something entirely new. Its an exhaust that acts as two different exhausts in one. There is main pipe which splits into twin. One route is a full straight exhaust with no muffler whatsoever. Another route is through a conventional full titanium muffler for moderate noise suppression. The beauty of this system is that it comes with a remote control so that while inside the car you can decide each day if you want a racing exhaust or a street exhaust on your commute to work.

It would be sweet if someone could come up with a similar exhaust technology for the RX8, it would be awesome.

hotrodders have been doing exhaust bypass valves for many many many many years now... an uncorked rotary is extremely loud and not very nice sounding

yeah seems like its the same basic concept. I guess this could also work if you have the valve before the cat right? That way you could have catless and w/cat in the same setup? correct me if I am wrong.

So this is also a cat delete as well, am I seeing this picture right? I'd love to hear a video clip of the difference between running through that dinky muffler and the straight pipe.

I tried a q-tec exhaust cutout on a rotary a few years ago. I started it up and it only ran once! I pulled it right off. There is no power difference and the noise of an unmuffled rotary is downright impressive. The designer of this exhaust apparently doesn't understand that you can in fact have good muffling and good flow at the same time in one system. If he had put a muffler after a valve in the other leg he'd still get the same desired effect from a flow standpoint. Those mufflers are worthless though.

There was a time, in the early 80's, that IMSA ran rotary engine cars with open exhaust. I was working corners at road races. It hurt the ears as they went by. The next year there was a DB limit set that the cars couldn't exceed. The tuners said they gained HP with the cars muffled.

Cutouts are fun toys, but they inevitably burn out in after a few months. In theory its the ideal setup for an exhaust on traditional piston engines as it allows for scavenging at low rpms, then opens to no restriction at WOT. W/out computer control its a pointless toy that does more harm then good.
