Is this security device really fitted on all EU cars. Thatcham is a UK- specific requirments, isn't it?
By the way, what does Thatcham mean or where does that name come from?

I dont know about Euro cars, but it may apply - only know for certain about UK cars.

Thatcham are a private car security firm I believe but are used to grade/clasify/type car alarms.

Who is the sharp person who started that thread complaining about inaccurate/vague thread titles?

This dipshit from the UK named A K, along with his cohort Dickinson, even has the nerve to preface his remarks with "WARNING." For a moment, I thought it was going to be one of those Girls Gone Wild infomercials. As it is, this bonafide bonehead is involved in developing a piggyback competitor to the Canzoomer. Talk about conflict of interest.

That title is extremely misleading and damaging to Canzoomer because it suggests there is a problem with the Canzoomer unit when in fact it's rather an issue with a "chastity belt" designed to block ANY AND ALL piggybacks or ECU replacements.

I would encourage ALL UK owners to boycott his Dastek UK Unichip, as this would effectively put a "chastity belt" to his illicit lip. Apparently, he stuffed one too many bangers.

Please read my thread warning of the dangers of the A K-influenced Dastek UK Unichip.

I hought so : Thatcham is definitely UK-specific.
Never seen a car around here (Belgium, NL, France, D) with any security on the ECU.

I wish my UK fellow owners good luck in finding a solution rapidly.

Anyone in the UK who stumps up $600 + UK import taxes (25%) will then find out they cant fit the unit unless thay make some prety hefty mods to the ECU housing.

NOT AS EASY AS ADVERTISED.

Theres photo's on that link which show the housing. I have no link to AK or CZ or anyone. I just dont want peope to spend £500 on something they may not be able to use.

Its also something canzoomer should be aware off to, and cant know unless someone tells him.

I can assure you that at no stage was it my intention to malign Canzoomer's product in any way, or to harm his business in any way. As a very enthusiastic RX-8 owner myself, I assure you I'm very keen to see a successful ECU mod that works on UK market RX-8s.

As it stands, Canzoomer is now aware of the issue with his product for the UK market and can, should he so wish, work towards developing a solution - I wish him the very best of luck.

It seems that canzoomer has no problem in selling all the units he can make at the moment, and I would guess that he'd much rather see them go to people who can make best use of them.

I will now have to correct you. Obviously, I'm not a prick. BOTH you and A K mislead the audience with your respective thread titles, and this fact is inarguable. Your other points are irrelevant. People see the title first.

Yep - they do - whuch is why I gave it a 'WARNING' label.

Try an english (or even american) dictionary.

Warning :-

I posted the ling to advise people reading this forum who bay be from Uk that there is an issue with UK cars. Nothing about CZ's mod at all, didnt say it was bad, poor, or anything - in fact I'm quite intrested in one myself. I didnt say anything 'bad' about CZ's mod.

I used the word warning as its dictionary definition - so people from the UK wouldnt spend £500 ($800+) on a piece of hardware they may not be able to fit.

Now CZ seems to be struggling with supply anyhow, so why cost people money, piss them off and deny others a CZ mod?

Mebbe CZ will take them back if peope cant fit them, but that still will leave people $300+ out of pocket.

Your response is a total over reaction and a personal insult all in one, which is against the forum rules for one.

For what its worth i found your post very informative and in no way derreogatory to canzoomers unit , keep up the goodwork in informing the U.K buyers of this potential hiccup eith the ECU cradle .

Boy there are a lot of ANAL assholes on this forum , mostly from the U.S.A.( YOU ALL KNOW WHO U ARE )

There was no reason for the personal attacks in this thread. Those involved have been warned, and if it keeps up, the thread will be closed.

I'll say only this. You're both right and both wrong. Rob... seriously... you're first line reads "Dont buy one!" Yes the next says that "Not that it isnt any good, but you cant fit it!" but that's the second line. That title and first line have already gotten people's attention and opinion forming. In the end you try not to disparage the CZ unit, and just warn UK people, but... they way you started out was a bit... inflammatory? Phineas... you did fly off the handlea bit here... cool down man. Not that big of deal yet.

Honestly, unless you realy know what your doing and are up to some serious work to fit this theres no point buying it. And if your up to tackling that kind of security then my warning wont put you off anyhow.

Its not like its cheap or returnable (mebee we could return it BUT it'd still cost us £200+ Carrige and customs fees).

I'm personaly upset because a CZ mod (or similar) was something I was considering, especialy since I've been on here from the start and followed CZ closely. I even wrote the faq promoting the unit on the UK owners club site.

It Just means that any modification we undertake is going to mean a lot more work and be a hell of a lot more obvouls to the dealers.

Also as its part of the thatcham(alarm/security) classification thing it;d probably invalidate our insurance inthe event of vehicle theft - insurance companies here wriggle out of every claim they can.

I'm not sure I fancy loosing £20,000 because of it. Its not anything to do with CZ's mod, just theres now an awful lot more for us (in the UK) to think about before we fit this kind of thing.

When I heard... I was outraged too. And it doesn't even directly affect me... yet. So I do feel for you UK guys... but something will be worked out. Mazda isn't a computer company and even computer companies can't stop hacking. Just have to be patient.
