Dumb Questions That Need Answering

hey guys, i just bought a 2007 rx8. I was looking on youtube and saw the red rx8 with borla exhaust shooting flames out the back after letting off the gas. I understand that this is common for rotaries but not with just a catback exhaust. He has to have a race pipe or highflow cat from what i understand. Anyway my question is, I am buying a borla cat back exhaust and want my car to have the flames just as often and visable as this car. Is it possible with the RP Supercat and the Borla Catback? Thank a lot guys

sure. There is a thread out there covering the exact subject in more detail.

One question, Why do you want flames? I dont think it can be too good for the car

The rotary love to through flames at certain times. Just the name of the game.. The rotary also doesn't mind the redlines so much..

cant you get flames with the Mazdaspeed exhaust also?

ivory rx8 01-17-2008 05:54 PM

i dont have to have flames, its just something that after you see it at night in person, youd like on your car. So when you say sure JB_Rotary, do you know if the combination of the RP Supercat and Borla Catback produces flames as much as this car on youtube??

whoever drives behind you going to hate you.

Not to mention I dont think its legal to go cat less, at least for new york, flames = cops magnet.

All you really need is a race pipe (cat delete). The cat-back exhaust you use doesn't really matter. I've done it with just a stock cat-back and with an Agency Power cat-back exhaust (I have the Agency Power race pipe too).
Just be warned that you won't pass e-check, it'll be loud, and sometimes you'll smell gas. As long as these don't bother you and destroying the o-zone is ok to you, go for it.
But FYI... I put my cat back on because even though shooting flames were fun for awhile, the loudness and gas smell eventually got old.

^Yeah it is very loud. G3tR3DDY2GR3DDY has a midpipe and shoots flames, But it is extremely loud. Too loud fo rmy tast. I saw him shoot flames at the last meet, it did look pretty cool, but the loudness just killed it.
