drag racing

I dont see to many people drag racing there renesis powered Rx8's, but there out there. the rx-8 drivers seem to use the steeing wheel for...well, steering. lol, road racing and stuff. But im using the renesis in an Rx7 for a drag car.

Im wondering whats the record for an NA powered renesis car. Im looking to either beat or set beat the record.

anyone know it?

mscamp02 10-02-2009 07:47 AM

lol I couldnt tell you but N/A im going to say like 14 for a quarter

RoTaRyRx-8 10-02-2009 07:53 AM

i think it was 14.41 1/4 mile bone stock

tubingchamp 10-02-2009 08:29 AM

N.A. renesis, max WHP is around 220 with a ton of engine mods..

mscamp02 10-02-2009 09:33 AM

in other words not a drag race car....use it for what it was made for

RedRocket8 10-02-2009 01:40 PM

^^agree

nikkdizzle 10-02-2009 02:10 PM

don't bother trying to drag a Renesis motor NA...its not happening.
if you're lucky you can get 220 whp from it...if you're dragging an rx7 why not stick to the 13b rew?

interesting, what year rx7?

chancejat 10-02-2009 03:29 PM

ive seen a 14.01 at 99mph in a rx8 with a turbo xs full exhaust and a fd tranny. the rx8 transmission sucks and slows down the car thats why people with over 300whp cant even get into the 12's.

sen2two 10-02-2009 03:39 PM

right now its in a 91 Rx7. but Im looking to trade the body for a much lighter 1st gen. but as of now, its still a second gen.

theres older 13's with 220-230 running low 12's. these cars are much lighter and gear ratios are ket.

I know no one thinks it can be done. but i plan to make over the 230 mark all motor. maybe i can, maybe i cant. only time will tell. I will only be using the renesis core. everything that is bolted to it will be designed and fabricated by me to hopefully beat out the stock design.

Jukka1984 10-05-2009 06:50 AM

I made 15 seconds flat in my 1st 1/4 meile race. The gastank was full - :-( and i wasn´t really on point, so i think about 14-14,5 is possible!

Rotr8 10-05-2009 09:09 AM

you guys are totally forgeting the OPs purpose, with a lightened car and internal work done there should be no problem at all hitting the OPs goals for sub 12s ,,,

TeamRX8 10-05-2009 09:49 AM

There is no record dreamer, before or after you run down the 1/4

230 rwhp all motor, the very thought has me

kersh4w 10-05-2009 12:17 PM

there are no records that apply to you. you only want it to be n/a, but then you go ahead and change the other big parameter. the vehicle its in. there have been no renesis swapped cars that i know of. so feel free to be the first. i've seen video of a 12 second rx8, but it was turbocharged. and there is a 414whp rx8 out there somewhere, that is probably good for low 11s. at least.

so far, the fastest i've seen posted, stock is 14.48 @ 93. 14.41 @ 97 was with some mods. but it doest even apply since my car is the grand touring and weighs 3050 w/o driver.

now take teamrx8's car, which had 225whp (at one point) and weighs 2800lbs. and its definitely a different race. too bad he doesnt drag race. because he definitely has a 13 second car  (btw, my car is still in the dealership because of a blown tranny, i expect it back this week. so i'll send you back your parts soon)

teamrx8 did 225whp. imo, i think you can top that because there were a few things he couldnt do due to b-stock regulations. recently coming to light has been bridge porting the renesis. also, BDC motorsports has been polishing the intake.

TeamRX8 10-05-2009 05:33 PM

The biggest issue is that 2nd gear won't last in a seriously drag raced RX-8, it will eventualy blow off all the 2nd gear countershaft teeth under hard 1 - 2 shifting

.

sen2two 10-05-2009 06:46 PM

im using an rx7 Turbo II tranny wich is 5-speed and holds up fine to 500-600 whp cars and have seen 9 second quarter mile.

also im trading my second gen body for a 1st gen body (wich the reni will go into now) wich when race ready will weigh about 1950 with me in it, or lighter if i can get it down there. i weight 190.

also, only the reni core will be used. im almost finished with my intake manifold and about to start on the headers. and will be using a Microtech stand alone tuned on C16. and as of right now the tuner will be world record holder for all motor Jesus "Kilo" Padilla.

and i know theres a lot of speculation that the reni can not make it over 230. But, i am going to try and surpass that. only time will tell.

Let me know how the build goes and costs, im in the market for a 1st or 2nd gen. and this would be a sweet way to go with it. I've seen a few shells in good condition go sub $500 and if this build is affordable enough it would be freaking sweet. :smoker:

sen2two 10-05-2009 09:07 PM

this 1/4 mile calculator is pretty accurate within a few tenths. it dosnt take into account slicks vs. street tires, driver, track conditions, ect... but its usually pretty close to within a few tenths from what i have seen.

with my hp goal numbers and the rest of the figures plugged in. the RPM i want to cross the line at are right where i want them to be and quarter mile is a 12.05

cost will vary from person to person. I down my own welding and fab work so manifolds, headers, ect. cost is only material. car i got in a trade. microtech i got in a trade. ford rear i got in a trade. lol... so i dont have much actual cost in this right now.

i think i will not spend over 5k when its complete including cost of parts i traded. and im figuring it will be a 12.2-12.5 car all motor. but the actual goal is to get the car 11.9 or faster all motor. but this might be a while off after trying new port techniques, combinations, and manifolds...

i could be a keyboard tough guy and argue. but i believe i will achieve this. thats all i neww to know. have a nice day.

kersh4w 10-05-2009 09:22 PM

i believe in you, you will have to bridgeport the motor though.

xun4gvn4everx 10-05-2009 09:34 PM

Good luck!! If you achieve this it will be awsum!!! :)

sen2two 10-05-2009 10:02 PM

thanks. im looking into bridging it. i have 4 port and 6 port plates. 6 port right away seems to be the better candidate for better power and as of right now, its what im building. but im experimenting with the 4 port plates to see what i can do. i got some ideas that are currently in progress and it might seem to me that 4 port renis have some hope yet! not sure yet though... im not finished with the plates.

Intake runner size really isn't the issue that some make it out to be.

What part about the above reply to you don't you get?

Nobody is trying to be the internet tough guy, rather there's an attempt being made to help someone avoid being the internet dufus ... keep focusing on the intake and it will be inevitable.
