I couldn't find one so I rolled my own... I don't sell it, but check out my pages for a DIY www.spin9k.com - directions are there with most of the needed parts description. I really think moving 38 lbs of ugly lead off the front of the car makes a dif in the track performance.

Spin9k, that's an interesting mod. Not what I had in mind (I was thinking trunk) but it would work for my purposes. Where did you get the washer fluid bag and what's the part number? Why do you have to hook it up to a battery tender? Do you do that every night?

There are pages and pages of technical detail on the battery, so it was warning about if you leave your car for 30 days etc, the battery will be at some low charge, and if any problems occur, it isn't covered under warranty, etc. So they said in cars w/parasitic losses to use a battery maintainer. I got a small one at Walmart, and when I had the car stored last winter and was doing this mod, I used it.

Since the weather is better, and I'm driving the car, I haven't bothered using it anymore (three months now) and everythign is fine. It works like a normal battery, I don't even think about it anymore. So I would say it is nice thing, but not a necessary thing if you don't leave your car for extended periods unused.

Total cost for the mod including the battery @about $80 was about $150

I saw that post. Haven't digged any further but $300 to relocate the battery sounds pricey.

In relocating the battery, you should consider some things about overall outcome, not just where to put the battery.

It maybe or it maybe not a wise thing to put a battery in the trunk area. The weigth and even price of cable thick enough to carry the current required for that distance is significant e.g. #0 guage is 1lb/3' and hard to run in the cabin well. Plus, unlike the engine compartment, in the trunk you need some substantial mounting box, again a weight addition and it and the cables are in the way.

Aside from convenience, weight savings, and material cost savings....keeping the battery up front was also for balance w/the driver at the same end of the car w/allowing 38old-16new or 22lb approx. savings in the quest to shave lbs. allover and to compensate for some mod's additional weight.

In the end, what are you trying to accomplish is a good place to start. Have fun...;)

My intent is to free up some space in the engine bay for other stuff. If necessary, both putting the battery in the trunk and replacing the washer reservior would accomplish this.

I'm also working on relocating the battery to the trunk. I was looking for a kit, yet didn't come up with what I wanted, so I just pieced it together starting with 2 awg welding cable and lugs from WELDING SUPPLY.com, I got a few packs of heavy duty zip ties from DEL CITY.net, the battery from E-bay(An Odyssey PC 680) and the rest of the misc. items I went to Sears Hardware and Radio Shack( for rubber grommets and an inline fuse)
Since I do not have the spare tire in the trunk, I used that cross brace for a mounting point for the battery/battery box. The box I made out of 1/8" 6061 aluminum, to keep it light and strong.
If any one decides to relocate the battery to the trunk, make sure you run the ground back to the battery! I found out the hard way.

So you guys are not having any problems with the Odyssey PC 680?

I was going to go with Braille Auto battery, but they are more expensive then Odyssey.

GTAW how much did it cost you? it looks clean but it uses much of trunk space. Couldn't you place it like the tire repair kit somewhere?
I want to relocate my battery to the the trunk too...

It cost me about $130 for the battery, battery posts, cable, lugs, bolts, rubber grommets, fuse/holder and zip ties. The rest like soldering the battery lugs and welding the battery box wasn't much, since I had all the material in stock.

There is a few ways you can mount the battery, I chose that location for ease of installation, its perfectly centered and the battery is very easy to get to, if needed.

I got used to the spare tire in the trunk, so replacing it with some thing smaller doesn't bother me. ( I never use the trunk anyway) :) You know, putting it in place of the tire repair kit would work well too. It wouldn't take much to make a mounting bracket coming off of the 2 bolts from the rear srut tower mount to hold the battery in place.

the braille web site sucks. they make all these claimes and give no info at all :confused:
they say their battery is light but don't have any of the electrical specs?
then I went looking and found a lot of light weight performance car stuff but not what they actually did.

Why not just locate the 680 in the stock location and save the cable weight?

I moved it to the trunk to open space in the engine bay for a custom turbo setup. For me, I not worried about the cable, the smaller battery makes up for that.

as for the mounting spot, I asked because I'll probably install the MS rear strut bar soon or later. maybe with the strut there is a way to fit the battery in there :rolleyes: I hope...

isnt this kit only compatable with left hand drive RX8's? for the washer tank.
