I imagine the dealership will not be fond of the pulleys and could easily void your warranty.
Each dealership is individually owned / operated so it depends on where you go but chances are not good.

From what I seen on this forum about the limited benefits of the pulleys (do a search), if you are concerned about your warranty it's not worth it. As Jedi say's it sorta hit and miss with the dealers

The dealership, by federal law, must PROVE that the modification caused a particular failure in order for them to be able to not honor work under a warranty. The only legal grounds for them to deny warranty work is when there have been modifications to the emissions systems, and they can only deny the work while the emissions system is modified.... ie you go in with no cat, they can say "we're not touching it", you come back with the cat reinstalled and legally they can not deny you service.

As far as the pulleys go, unless you are competing in a racing class they are waste of money.

The dealership doesn't have to prove anything, YOU have to. This issue has to do with the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act. That act covers more than cars and the word "emissions" is not mentioned in the act. If you have a warranty coverage dispute you have to get a lawyer and sue them. Waiving a piece of paper in front of the service writer will not reduce them to the fetal position.
That said will installing the pulleys change the way the alternator & water pump function? Yes or you wouldn't be buying them. There are a multitude of issues that can be blamed on changes to the cooling & electrical system. The dealer also doesn't have to convince you, they only have to get a jury or judge to agree with them.

Keep the stock ones....if you have a problem...put them back in before you take the car in....

End of problem :)

All in all pulley's aren't worth the hassle for the 8.
Stock pulley are very light to begin with.
Don't believe everything you see advertise on the net that focus on power gains.
As stated, a pulley mod can effect engine cooling/electrical function

Warranties becoming void are hard to fight we the owner of the car is in the wrong this is why almost everyone on the forum keeps their OEM parts for the possible dealer visits. Pulleys aren't beneficial enough to worry about swapping in and out every time (IF) you must go to the dealer.

Good Luck with your decision

X

Does this mean you can get away with going to the dealer with a mid pipe/ high flow cat installed?
Would Racing Beat of BHR plug wires cause a problem?

Dealerships can be very unpredictable

Buying the shop a couple of Pizza's / Doughnuts & being very nice to the service writer goes a long way.

If you go buy the letter of that act than performance springs, shocks, sway bars bushings and brake lines all void the warranty as well. Anything that alters the intended use or performance of the product voids the warranty. Under the Magnuson-Moss act an aftermarket cat back exhaust voids the warranty and legislation to reinforce that has been proposed and defeated in almost every state.

any non-OE engine part van potentially void your warranty, whether it does or not is almost entirely up to the discretion of the dealership, sometimes the Mazda District Service rep if they have to get involved

had my car warrantied for some failures unrelated to a pulley. they try to focus on something else as the cause of it... and were concerned as they asked about the pulley kit i had.

being those are the only thing under my hood, all else pretty much oem. i mentioned quickly the pulleys being oem sizes... and my work was performed, after much fuss regardless.

so lets be real here. no dealer WANTS to give out warranty work for half the pay. and if ur pulley kit is not the right dimensions and messes something up, u've only got urself to blame for getting the under-driving pulley.

if u get the same size pulley...what can they say? just tell them a shop messed up ur oem pulleys while changing out ur belts, so u got a replacement one in the same size and specs... done deal.

well...

real, lets put it this way.

if you can get a no namer brand alternator and water pump aluminum pulley combo, which goes for dirt cheap and be happy with it, it'll be a fun mod.

the reason i only suggest those two are because they are the "driven" pulleys. and as long as you stay within the stock dimensions, there should be zero problems.

there are a few benefits to aluminum pulleys: its light-weight(obviously a given), it doesn't rust(also another given), and that the belts can benefit from having more slack and not slip...(aluminum does heat up and expand quicker)mainly due to its light weight.

just stay away from under-driven CRANK pulleys and a focus most have on HP gains if spending $$$ on pulleys.

treat these like light weight wheels, and absorb the other aspects of its benefits. and if u can shop around and get them cheap, they won't seem like such a waste of money then...

honestly....i feel more is wasted elsewhere on things like: spoiler, intakes, CF hoods...

just my biased thoughts...as i am more towards weight shaving benefits anyways.

hope u like my point of view =)
