decided to keep extreme clutch. going in, in about 2 weeks
 

It seems that although the extreme clutch may be overkill, its only about 15%-20% stiffer than the heavy duty clutch. That said, it's still nowhere as stiff as the mustang's clutch that i was scared off from.

I guess i'll keep it.

However, the guy told me that when a clutch is brand new, the catch point is almost right off the floor. My engagement is like 2in engaged so he said my clutch is pretty worn. I guess it's time for a new one...

what are the characteristics and signs of a worn clutch??

When the clutch is engaged, you step on the gas and the RPMs increase, without the speed of the vehicle increasing (or a gawd aweful burning asbestos smell).

well.. what are the signs before the clutch actually gives? Like, what the SR motorsports guy said -- is he right??

I can tap (1-2in compress clutch pedal) and i can engage gears... as opposed to a new clutch, where the catch point is like, almost to the floor...

The engagement point on most clutches is adjustable. A worn clutch will tend to slip more on takeup, in other words you might not see the RPM's spin, but you'll feel a "loss" of power when you take off.

that's strange.. b/c when i watched the skip barber driving school video, they said in a FAILED clutch, you can still control the rev's and gears through stronger throttle or soemthing like that... and the clutch would be very "soft"
