Custom Muffler set up

I took two 2.25 offset inlet and outlet flowmaster 40 series mufflers and Y'ed the pipe coming off the cat into these two mufflers sort of like the design of some aftermarket catbacks for the 8 or the set up for a vette. It sounds good looks good and cost me 150 bucks .. has anyone else done this?

Sounds good, do you have any pix?

I thought about doing this through a local shop. My buddy with a new S40 couldn't find any exhausts under $1k so he went to an exhaust shop and they welded one together for him for under $300 with resonator and all.

I asked the guy if he's ever seen a triange exhaust tip because I was thinking about running a single rotor shaped tip out the rear rotary accent. Unfortunately he hadn't.

I wanted to do the exact same thing with Apex N1 N/A spec mufflers... but those mufflers are SO expensive! Jeez.

army_rx8 07-14-2005 11:10 PM

^how much are the apexi N1's ?

rotarygod 07-14-2005 11:14 PM

N1's are loud. A Dynomax muffler would be a great choice. They come in several styles from quiet to loud, ugly to pretty. They are well designed and fairly cheap and come in a number of inlet/outlet styles and sizes.

N1 turbo-specs are loud... N/A spec isn't ^^

The mufflers itself (where I looked around) were about 200 dollars on average...

Search is your friend

there's not much point unless you're cutting a bunch of weight out as there is little power to be had

2 mufflers = twice the weight

some people just have to have those dual tailpipes though

^hehe

post pics please! Also how many inches is your main pipe? You mention 2.25 at the Y, I understand this is better for power, but why not 2.5? Also is your setup stainless steel?

I ran a 40 series on my Acura, and while alot of peeps "in the know" flamed me for not using a proper exhaust, it sounded great, performed equally as well, and only cost around $250 for the whole catback setup. Those who didn't know much about imports looooved it. Lots of complements, sounds a helluva lot better than other less expensive systems out there (i.e. fart cans). Pics and sound clips would be great--

Sorry for not having pictures .. im pretty new to this forum thing so if someone would tell me how to upload pictures or even a video

Ive driven the car for 3 days now with it on there and i like it more and more.. louder and deeper but its not obnoxiously loud like some buzzing bees. the interior is alot deeper sounding as well.. .. no its not all stainless ... I paid 69.00 for each muffler and used aluminized piping for my Y's and used the stock tips from the T muffler. I went with 2.25 instead of 2.5 .. well im not sure thats just what i picked up and it was easy to fit

Captkeith 07-15-2005 04:17 PM

btw zoom zoom.. the main pipe off the cat is the stock one
