Custom Exhaust
 

Hey guys i just went down to my local shop and inquired about getting a custom exhaust installed on my 06 8. i did a quick search and havent seen any post on this but i was wondering if any of yous out there have an opinion on this. i am in alaska and these guys have been around for 54 years. i told em i wanted to make sure i wasnt loosing hp and he replied we are a performance shop we arent in the business of loosing hp. so what they are planning is to do a dual pipe right outa the cat and use vortec mufflers, what he explaind was these are racing straight through mufflers with i guess louvers that create a circular flow. with the 2 pipe setup he says this is best for flow especially for rotary and FI engines wich i plan on having eventually. this is just an idea oh ya and they can do the entire custom cat back system for right around $500. so if i get more performance for cheaper than one of these aftermarket manufactured ones completly installed and have a totally custom original look i cant see a drawback but i want to get some opinions from any of y'all who have gone this route or have inquired about it.

sounds good to me, as long as they make where you can easily replace the mufflers.

if you are going to do one.. and i think it is a great way to go.

here is what i have learned in my research on this topic...

do a 3" back pipe to a 3" y inlet. 2.5 out is fine.... mufflers 2.5 in and out...

the tips, go crazy..

$500 for a custom zaust is a good deal, just listen to swoope above for the right diameter.

Thanks for the info on that pipe diameter... i am hoping to get this done soon... i promised myself i wasnt gonna do anything except window tinting this summer and i am getting a hell of a deal on that after i talked the owner down :) but now i am really considering going with this exhaust this summer also i want to have the zoom zoom sound and he told me that whatever sound i want they can make lol. anyways once i actually get this stuff done i will have to post some pics and soundclips for u guys give a review on how it is. i figured since rotary engines are so unique why not stick with that and just go complete custon cant stand seeing the same thing i have on someone elses car.

how would they be able to give you any sound you want?? haha that would be good of them to do, but it will be hard..... I was thinking about this before I bought the MS exhaust!

Since you live in Anchorage, Alaska you may want to invest in snow shoes for your 8.
The factory rubber will be pretty much useless in your part of the world...

I think go for it.

Here by us in SA, it will be to expensive to bring a MS orRB exhaust in.
We vave all our exhaust and those stuff made at reputable aftermarket exhaust manufacturers done who has dynos and do some testing and who knows about flow / exhaust technology, and we get very good results.
I had my midpipe custom made, my next that I am busy with is also to do the back part, a Y split into 2 straight through boxes (the boxes as big as possible to get sound down) I will then put another resonator box (straight through) into the midpipe to take sound levels a bit down.We think that will be perfect. Pipe diamaters will also be as swoope say.

lol eyeball, i have invested in some snow shoes its a 94 blazer 4x4 s10 i bought like a week after i got my 8 :) there is no way in hell ima let this car see the snow unless its from looking out of the garage. and thanks everyone for your info it just seemed like this topic hadnt been discussed much everyones gets manufactured exhaust and well custom just seems like it would be best and i like the idea of being unique :)

That should work and probably cost about the same as a new set of winter tires for your 8 :)
