custom dual filter intake, no idle problem

I cleaned the MAF and kept both screens from the stock intake box.

I really like how the dual filter intake looks and sounds. As for HP gain, I would say it's all in my head. If anything, I might be losing HP.

Dyno testing will be posted when I have time. Hopefully in 3 wks.
Test runs will be as follow:
1. stock
2. dual filter intake
3. exhaust cutout
4. dry 50 shot nos
5. 2-4 combined. :fingersx:

Looks like there's going to be a decent amount of turbulence created by that 90.

ninjatrader 02-13-2009 10:21 AM

turbulence?

czar 02-13-2009 10:30 AM

...umm, why?

Shaftski 02-13-2009 10:33 AM

You will always have turbulence if the tubing isn't a smooth curve. 90 degree angle would cause a non-laminar flow, probably resulting in uneven pressure readings. Why not go w/ a filter w/ a larger surface area and a straight pipe in?

This falls into the category of "most pointless mod ever."

Off topic, but I'm curious: Do you trade ninjas, or are you a ninja who is also a trader?

bose 02-13-2009 10:39 AM

wat?

Flashwing 02-13-2009 10:41 AM

I can almost promise you that your setup will have a more restricted airflow than even the stock setup.

Just purchase a drop in K&N or green filter element and you'll be better off.

ninjatrader 02-13-2009 10:45 AM

I'm a commodity trader. I use the ninjatrader platform

as for the intake, I wouldn't consider it a mod. I'm just going for looks. I am not going to spend 300-500 for 1-2hp gain.

My real mods will be the Turbo install. Right now, I have 50shot nos, that is more than enough for my AT.

I'll try combining two smooth curve pipe and meeting them in the middle to get a smoother air flow.

If you get the filters how you like them you should track down a scrap airbox and some acrylic and try to combine the two into a nice air box that shows off the dual filter set up. I think it COULD be a good looking mod if done correctly. It'll take some work and some planning to do it right though.

My thoughts on the loss/gain of hp:
people argue that intakes are worthless because they only gain 1-2 ponies, if that. If that's the case, what's the big deal about losing 1-2 hp? I understand if you race and need every thing you can get, but then the first argument wouldn't hold up either. It seems that we're not going to notice much in these cars either way, loss or gain, unless you really FUBAR the job. If it looks good and doesn't affect drivability then why not?

:yesnod:

Thx to Tayler, I'm looking into dual curve piping for a more laminar air flow.

As for the scarp airbox idea, I didn't plan that far ahead. I'll keep an eye out for stock airbox on the FS thread. I have an idea of how I want to incorporate the airbox, but i want to have a backup box first before I chop my stock one up.
