Competition Clutches?

Hi all, I searched and didn't find anything but I can get Centerforce and Competition Clutch through my work. I've been informed and have read about horror stories with the Centerforce clutches so I will stay away from those but I'm curious if anyone runs the Comp. Clutch?

The options are:
Stage 2 - 80% increase over stock - full disk
Stage 4 - 250% increase - 6 puck
IronMan - 175% increase - 6 puck

I should probably go with Exedy or ACT, I used to road race with the Exedy and it was the best clutch I've ever owned but for cost sake I can get the Comp. Clutch cheap.

Keep in mind I just ordered a Full exhaust, hopefully ordering some BHR Coils tomorrow and the car will be turbo'd this winter. I'm probably going to do a compression test tomorrow but the engine seems to run strong, hasn't even turned over 40k.

There is no need for anything track oriented. The stock (Exedy) clutch is very good. Even boosted I find no need for a stronger clutch.

Get an exedy stage 1 and weld your clutch pedal's bracket if you really have to do any transmission related work.
As 9k said there's no need for anything stronger.

thanks guys, had a friends clutch pedal snap yesterday going down the road , he wasnt too happy.

I was told by the guys at Turblown I would need a new clutch but if the stock on will hold I guess I'll give it a try

I mean if you have money to burn, a heavy duty clutch might be something to do but if you are going turbo there are many other places to put that money.

Yep, it mostly depend on your tq goals. A stage I clutch can hold plenty while not being excessively harsh on our already weak transmission.

what can be done for the transmission? I'm not used to having to worry about everything breaking on a car, lol. My buddy up the road has already gone through 2 transmission but I don't know how he drives the car

I have not had any issues with my tranny in 127,000 miles of use (knocks on wood) but if you track a lot or make a ton of power, they have been known to fail. As for the failures on the street, I personally think it has more to do with how you drive. I know a couple of guys in Texas who have had transmission problems and they are pretty rough on their transmissions so I can sort of see why.

My s1 transmissions lasted approx 20 track hours each. Then went down the drain.
The s2 i have now is bulletproof.

Weld the clutch pedal, get a decently soft clutch and be kind on the transmission. It will last longer.

Thanks alot for the help guys, I might look into the Series II transmissions. I wonder if cryo treating certain parts would help? I had this done on my Evo and it was heavily abused at the track, never had a transmssion failure.

It's mostly a design issue, it won't do much.

I have just bought the Exedy Stage 1 and will be installing this weekend. What do you mean by welding the clutch pedals bracket?

Hmm sounds like somebody needs to make some new transmission provisions for the RX8. What kind of power are you making BSE50?

There is no need, the 09+ tranny is a easy swap and works flawlessly. I have one sitting in my garage taunting me.
