cobb/exhaust
so far
i have my pulleys strut bar and intake and i am debating on what to put on next cobb ap or some sort of exhaust (to be named later) if i am right cobb will give more HP right? but the exhaust sounds so good |
You are right......exhaust is little to no horses. The Cobb can give you more options in the future as you add components. If you go the Cobb route make sure you buy it from MazdaManiac. He will hook you up with a ton of maps to play with.

actually.... i would say get the cobb ap and a high flow cat .. both add hp
the high flow cat drops around 30 lbs off the car as well as a nice hp increase... only a few.... but dam the flow is soooooooo much better. dont drop the cat on your foot.... it hurts. |
were should i get high flo...???
sr motorsports seems expensive does cobb work with aem intake |
cobb works with any setup......use just keep adjusting the maps until you get a low AFR percentage.
VS8 is right the cat restricting a majority of the exhaust flow. if you dont have emissions testing get a resonated midepipe. Look on the forum and search to find reviews. |

from what i understand, it can change the air/fuel ratio. an engine that's running to rich, like ours come from the factory, doesn't make as much power as a leaner-running engine. a leaner tune is harder on a cat if ya run one. thats supposedly why mazda and probably other manufacturers set the engine to run rich.

LEAN IS MEAN! i wanna get me a cobb a/p. i've read it disable the 148mph-governed speed limit. if our cars go 60mph in 6th gear at 3K, then imagine 9K in 6th gear! simple mathematics tells me 180mph! we don't have enough power to do that with the only mod being the cobb a/p of course and i'd never attempt that on the street, but anyone have any idea how much power it would take to completely wind out top gear?

you need to start reading about areo drag.. that is the limit in the usa.. and lean also can blow a motor.. you need to read more. beers  |
you'd have to factor the drag coefficient.
2004 - 2008 rx-8 is 0.31 2009 rx8 is 0.30 |

stock rx8 calculates to about this..
173 whp, 124 torque. max speed is 142 mph. https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...4&d=1214181883 0-60 in about 5.8 sec at best |

my car with approx 300 whp, 245 torque has a max speed of 168 mph.
https://www.rx8club.com/attachment.p...1&d=1214182045 That puts the 0-60 at best in 3.1 sec. |

Comparison... keep in mind this is only a valid comparison for the MM/BHR turbo vs stock because of the torque curves... each turbo kit has it's own torque curves and that will be reflected on acceleration speed. This is also in theory stuff, since as we all know, 0-60 time on a stock rx-8 is usually more in the 6 sec range than 5.8

^So how fast would you really say that you get to 60? and quarter mile?

YO, not overly lean, just lean-er. and can't aero drag be fought with more hp? i think it can. and do you have to be so condescending when you post like you're talking to a retarded toothless hillbilly? i'm just an rx-8 lover like the rest of you all.
i have 146 mph. WAAS GPS. the front gets really light.. and your point is? beers  |

I have a feeling this thread may get interesting..i'm all tuned in for the fight!

125 in the rx8 at the test track....
felt very stable and planted to the ground.... my audi TT did 135 in the same amount of time though and topped out at 155// as for the mod of choice??? Cobb gets my vote, these cars run ridiculous rich, and there is more power to be found there than a slightly better flowing pipe.... and if you are going for exhaust get a single canister, it flows better than most of those 1-to-2 canisters that most companies use |
