CO2 cool down air temps?

Random question:
Who has any idea if CO2 would make an noticeable difference to air temps entering the motor?

Explanation to follow....

tsxmidship 01-22-2009 07:13 PM

sure, any heat exchange source with a lower temperature than the intake temperature would cause the intake temperature to drop. you have to define noticeable though.

yep...it would prevent combustion...haa haa

paulmasoner 01-22-2009 07:28 PM

i assume you mean to fog an IC or something and not inject into the stream...

04RX8man 01-22-2009 07:55 PM

yeah to "fog" an intercooler or use it to cool something yes it would cool down the temp but injecting it is not good.....at school we spray nitrous direct port and also spray nitrous on the intercooler for even higher numbers...(ford Lightning)

paulmasoner 01-22-2009 07:58 PM

yeah i was sure he meant that as well but just saying... think is it still doesnt make sense.... CO2 isnt the best thing to fog with

04RX8man 01-22-2009 08:00 PM

^yeah like I said we use Nitrous and get some good numbers but personally think it's a waste of money to just spray ON the IC but hey not my money for the Nitrous!

I will be using Nitrous or CO2, havent decided yet. A little experiment I will be working on with a few car guys.

sigh...

to solve your issue with your K&N...buy a better intake...you know...like the RB...

and your little experiment is only going to net you .5 HP with 10x the energy required to do it...

i'm just telling you right meow...

Look into the zex one.

04RX8man 01-23-2009 10:57 AM

IDK we netted quite a bit of HP gain but we were also working with a S/C lightning so i'm not sure about this motor!

NA vs FI is different...in FI applications it makes a difference...in NA, not so much...

04RX8man 01-23-2009 11:12 AM

^oh i know it does just saying that' i've seen it done to make more but having NA will not net much if anything....I wouldn't waste the money unless u were FI

paulmasoner 01-23-2009 11:24 AM

good catch on the sig info twinks, i didnt even lookat his sig... failure is immenant

nc.wiles 01-23-2009 05:18 PM

I will be FI, I am buying a ProCharger off a buddy this summer. Money isnt really an issue either, so dont worry about that. I just wanted an opinion, not a bunch of asshole feedbacks. Thanks.

paulmasoner 01-23-2009 05:20 PM

lol dont take it so personal... we did give you our opinion... you dont have to like it or even believe it :)

StealthTL 01-23-2009 05:27 PM

Not so much.

Where I am, I can guarantee a steady intake temperature of minus 30*F, and it don't do squat for my power.

If you go FI, the cooler temp will be after the intercooler, and never seen by the ECU sensors, so the mixture and timing would already be set for the intake temp.

It would also be difficult to keep all the CO2 out of your intake air, due to the proximity of IC and CAI. Even a little (10%/vol) would negate any benefit.....

i didt think afr had anything to do with IAT? but yeah timing...

Then you should restate your question to include all the proper information instead of ASSuming anything and creating such a general question that you'll get the wrong feedback...

Your question...fails...

Your attempted recovery also...fails...

Prochargers...without oil...fails...

Air with CO2...ignition...fails...

Real men cool their intercoolers with liquid nitrogen.

09Factor 01-23-2009 07:18 PM

^^^ True but i'm not in the mood to tote around a Dewar flask.

But you could route the vent to the wheel wells and have fog billowing out from behind the wheels at stop lights. That would be so cool it would have to at least 30-50 HP.

Twinkie, I tried that once and all I did was burn my yambag really badly.
