Clogged Cat ---> BHR Coils?
I figured this section would get the most traffic, and didn't want to thread jack.
Car got towed today, cat was glowing red + all the other common cat clogged issues (don't know if I got a CEL due to AP). I read that a common issue causing the CAT fail is ignition problems. My car has no history of misfires and has only 27000km ( about 17000 miles). Could my coils and plugs be gone already? Was planning on get the BHR in the future, should I get the dealer to check the plugs/coils or just go with the upgrade without bothering with it. |
With only 27000km on the car, isn't it still under warranty? I believe the cat is by Canadian law.
What year is the car. |
The Cat is under warranty (2007 car bought in 2008). My question is regarding the coils and plugs.
|
my coils had no signs of going out right up untill the hour that my cat melted, clogged and held my car under 25mph
BHR and midpipe, shes as good as new |
I've seen OEM coils die in 8000km (5000mi).
BHR is clearly a better coil, but seeing as you're so low on mileage I would just get them replaced under warranty seeing as it's free and you would probably kill yourself if your engine went and the dealer refused warranty work because of the ignition. Besides, it would be free. However I run BHR coils and have done so since about your mileage but then again I bought a write-off so warranty was never a concern. |
Just got back, and now have two new leading spark plugs. Car is a completely different beast. They said the trialing plugs look fine, and coils are fine. Cat passed the diagnostics test after new plugs. Apparently I was running on one rotor.... Still consider BHR kit, but nice to know I have some time to get it.
My exhaust shrouds are completely and utterly destroyed. Melted away (Have 4in Ti tips) from the heat. At least its fixed. EDIT: I just sent my 4.01 data logs for AP tuning... how big of effect will this have? |
^ you'll loose hair during the wait period...
|
So let me get this right - they did not replace your cat?
|
^^ Nope. They said the unburnt fuel getting dumped into the cat was causing it to get that hot, and it is still fine.
The bill says they tested the CAT, and it passed... |
