Cheapest ebay exhaust
3 Attachment(s)
I think this exhaust is the same design as the Speed Daddy one, but lacking the tip resonators and coloration.
You can read about it here, but it is presently on ebay for ~$200 + shipping. It is 2.25", and the shipped weight was 25lbs. I didn't weigh it myself. At idle and cruising it is quite similar to stock, gets loud enough under load to attract unwanted attention, or wanted if you're like that. Never loud enough to annoy passengers. This is with the stock cat. IMO, it is a superb replacement for the damaged exhaust on my salvage RX8. Anyhow, not much use in yammering on. If you're considering hating, I'll just say I've got way less money in my car than you, also I'm younger and better-looking than you. :wiggle: The multimedia. Flyby video (kinda funny.) |
Ive also been thinking of buying one of those because well Im cheep and and if it sounds good id like it. Have you felt any difference in performance tho? is it like alot louder then stock or just a little?
|
Y'know, I left my butt-dyno in my other pants. :(
|
if you're happy with it then that's all that matters. The welds look suspect but for 200 bucks it's almost a disposable item

I agree that it is almost disposable. Like tools from Harbor Freight.
The welds have appear to have good penetration and no contamination. *shrug* Also, I'd like to add that the pipe has the same inner diameter as the stock exhaust. I've seen 2.5" mentioned numerous times. Just ain't so. Hell, I measured the circumference, but I still wasn't convinced; maybe I was wrong somehow. Maybe the pipe had more internal volume than external like the inventory in an RPG. So, I cut it. Once again, the stock catback is 2.25". |
Looks good. I'm not expert but I have seen a ton of exhaust setups and installed quite a few and those welds look just fine. Pipe Diameter doesn't mean much until you get into forced induction. I have the BHR midpipe and 3" HKS exhaust and I'll be first to admit there is no huge performance gain. It's not like I completely blow away stock RX8's (well off the bottle anyway I won't).

Just bought this exhaust. I love it. For the price, it is soo worth it. It purrs like stock when at idle but when at WOT it roars.
|
Knock-off exhausts have gotten much better in terms of quality over the years.
|
same size diameter so probably no real performance gains but there isnt much of anything with any exhaust anyways. If it sounds good and you like it then I say good find.
|
The muffler is typically the point of restriction. A 2.25" straight pipe should flow about 575cfm. I have guestimated my exhaust flow at 444cfm at 1600F. *shrug*
|
I just realized my math made no sense. I suck.

Hey, Oltmann.... did the plastic around the tips melt a little? When I installed the teh Bay exhaust, there looked to be like 1/4" of space between the bottom of the tips and the plastic shroud. I took it out for a drive and it melted the plastic just a little. But other than that, the fitment was great and the sound is amazing. Two thumbs up!
|
Let me get this straight .... your bragging about buying the cheapest exhaust you could find? Why may I ask? And by the way you may be younger but not better looking ;)
|
Ohhh okay. So I should drop $600+ dollars for something that will do.exactly the same as something that cost $200 dollars. Right? Just so I can go around saying I spent $600. Kinda like walking around in all in Armani Exchange to make people think you are somewhat important just to hide the fact that you have a small penis ROFL!!! Yeah, I spent $300 on my exhaust. I've got nothing to prove and it serves the same purpose and those $800 exhausts. When you look at the back of the car..... it all looks and functions the same. As far as horse power goes..... we wouldn't be driving RX8's if we wanted a fast powerful beast. We drive 8's for handling and style. Those expensive exhaust systems open up 3-5 HP at best. Not worth $800 IMO!
|
SynistaRX8! I think the main reason for spending a bit more $$ on an exhaust is to be buying from a reputable company that will really stand behind their product. That and generally better quality metals and welds on the exhausts that cost a bit more. There can be some gems for cheap but usually thats not the case.
Everyones free to buy cheap or expensive stuff for their own reasons, but you get what you pay for. As long as your happy thats what matters. |
The OBX exhaust has gotten decent reviews here, and is still relatively cheap: ~$300.
|
@ Xexok, no doubt. I fully understand what you are saying. I did my research on that company (4Caroption) before making up my mind on buying their $200 exhaust. I did not read one bad review and did notice that on Mazdarx8exhaust.com, that this same exhaust was going for $389 for a catback just like it's competitors. And if I can get it for $200, that was an amazing find. I just get annoyed when people get bashed for buying a "non-big name" exhaust system. But all in all, was a great find, and love the way it sounds. Much love for the RX8 community
|
I trimmed the exhaust shroud a bit where it was near the tips.
I think much of the reason people argue about this stuff is: http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Post-...ationalization |
If you like it, then that's all it matters.

ROFL! Fo sho, man! I did a lot of research on that brand before I bought it. They are called 4caroption and I haven't read one bad review. I installed it and the fitment was great and as far as the welds, my buddy who is a welder took a look at it and said they looked good. But..... anywho..... I think this thread is dead! Lol all in all...... good exhaust and a good price.... FTW!

I bought one similar to the one on ebay, found it on this website 250$ with shipping included, 3.5" it sounds really good, however it happened the same thing SynistaRX8 say, it melted the plastic a little, but it looks good, sounds good, and price was good. CANT COMPLAIN.

Good on you for finding a well performing alternative to spending a thousand dollars. If its good enough for you, its good enough.
|
Agreed, if you like it then go for it.
Like I said, knock-off quality had improved greatly. I'm very happy with my OBX. I've been lucky that they have all fit well. The reason I keep buying the OBX for my 8s is for the sound. It's a knock off of the Fujitsubo Legalis R at one quarter the price. I love the Fujitsubo sound. From the sound clips I've found of the Fujitsubo, the OBX copies that sound damn closely. Granted I didn't know about Fujitsubo until after I got my first OBX system years ago so that was a neat little surprise. Some may call it being cheap but since all I'm after is sound, if I can get it for 75% off then why not? |
