Canada BHR Ignition system

Hello, I am new to the forum and just recently purchased a 2004 rx8. I have read rx8 modding for noobies thread I believe it was called, and that is why I stumbled upon BHR. Since I have grown interested in their ignition system kit, and was wondering if anyone from Canada, Ontario preferred could let me know what it cost them to get this kit across the border. So far I know for the kit with no plugs and shipping is going to be 531$. Any info on this topic would be helpful, mainly looking for customs fees.

Depending on how you ship it...you will have to pay HST and whatever the shipper charges to broker it across the border.

Fedex and Purolater tend to be expensive..UPS and USPS tend to be more reasonable. There is no duty on Autoparts manufactured in the US

If you have it shipped, expect to pay HST - but likely no duty. Watch out for brokerage fees though. Both Fedex and UPS (moreso UPS) are brutal with their brokerage fees. Last time I had something shipped I had "brokerage included", but had to pay some other sort of processing fee. Stupid UPS.

If you are anywhere near the border, just have it shipped to a receiver, and bring it across yourself. You might get lucky on the HST too. I once brought back a set of rims and tires of about $1200 value and was not called in to pay anything at all!

theres a guy on local rx club (clubrxquebec.com) that makes some replicas sometimes, his user name over there is rx7sp.

would be much cheaper than getting em shipped from bhr.

Cpenner the HST is like $40-50 right, like 12% tax? Someone could just avoid that by installing the kit in the parking lot before coming back since it really is not that difficult. I can't imagine there is any possible way they could say you did that since they wont be checking your engine bay going there or back.

Since so many Canadians near the border come down here to shop for food or clothes or whatever it's not like the random trip would be suspicious.

Having said that, there are CRA rules about "modifications" made to vehicles outside the country, and which duties and taxes apply.

It's clear as mud - except for the fact that if you don't declare it, you may be forced to re-import your vehicle to Canada.

As usual - the degree to which this is interpreted depends on exactly who you encounter at the border, and how that conversation progresses.

I understand, there are just some things like ignition coils that they would have no clue about since they wont be checking under the hood as you leave. I don't know how it is entering Canada as a resident but I know just visiting all they care about is if you have ever had a DUI or not.

just build your own for 1/3 the cost. Seriously. Yukon coils can be had for dirt cheap online.
