Can you combine RB Exhaust with anything to make it louder?

All,

If this has already been discussed, let me know the thread link... BUT...

Here is the deal... I have a the Racing Beat exhaust system and I want to know if I can put on a B&B midpipe or B&B cat and make it louder...

I have: 1) RB REVi intake and 2) RB Exhaust

What can I add to make it just a bit louder..?

Thanks Guys!

Moostafa29 09-26-2005 11:46 AM

Just add a high flow cat if you want a nice tone and noise increase. If you want it really loud get a midpipe.

belkjz 09-26-2005 11:49 AM

midpipes do make the exhaust louder most say its almost too much for a daily driver but it may be just what you are looking for

RX8_Ownz 09-26-2005 12:13 PM

Get a high flow cat like mine. :)

mateo 09-26-2005 12:41 PM

Suming it up

Thanks to all...! (this is going to be a newbie question even though i'm not a newbie)

Basically, whats the layout?... is it:

header --> midpipe --> cat converter --> racing beat connecting pipe --> Racing Beat muffler?

I'd like to stay away from sounding like the loudest civic on the street but I still want a mid to high loudness level. I guess a high flow cat is a good starting point??

I can research for myself, but what are the 1 or 2 best high flow cats that have WORKED WELL on the 8??

Thanks for the quick response!!

RP supercat
SR high-flow cat

Mateo,

I have the Rotary Performance High Flow Cat on my 8 with the Greddy exhaust. A lot of people say how the Greddy exhaust is one of the loudest exhaust cat-back systems and my friend has it on his 8 with no high flow cat. His exhaust basically sounds stock in comparison to mine. With the high flow cat, the increase of volume is HUGE. It's loud, but it sounds good in my opinion. It has a little ricey raspy sound, in the 4-5k range when not warmed up, but that's usual. You'll love the RB + RP High Flow Cat. Talk to Nemesis08 (I think that's his name) He has that combination on his 8 and has videos/sound clips. Good luck!

i think its Nemesis8

Thanks bro for the info.. **see this is what I like about rx8 owners... mostly 99% helpful to another rx8 brotha.. haha ;) **

The exhaust system :

Header > Catalytic Converter > Catback (pipe and muffler)
or Midpipe After market catback or
just a muffler, or all pipe
and just a resonator

mateo 09-26-2005 01:48 PM

Sounds good

Understood.. so, i guess i will be doing the high flow cat:

Therefore the setup will be :

header > high-flow cat > catback exhaust (pipe and muffler)

Is it that hard to put in the High flow cat by yourself? I put the Racing Beat pipe and muffler on myself already..

I personally have the RB cat and RP high flow cat. I highly recommend it!

Or you could try this:
RP midpipe and Tanabe exhaust:

Not obnoxious loud or annoying:)

Thanks for the info... Definitely like the sound of that. I really love the Racing Beat exhaust and I will be sticking with it. A Rotary Performance High-Flow Cat will be the pimp together with the RB system.... With the 8', you want an above average sound coming out..

All,

I was reading in another thread that the Rotary Performance High-Flow Cat isn't that much louder than stock... Is this true? If it is, that would contradict everything i have heard. I have the RB exhaust so I would think that the Racing Beat exhaust + RP high-flow would be a good increase in sound over just a Reacing Beat exhaust and the stock cat..??

Anybody want to comment on that?? If there's not much sound difference then it won't be worth spending $440 on the high flow if it doesn't make the 8 much louder...

With the rb exhaust the supercat wount be too loud(so I hear). I'd go with a staight midpipe if you want noise.

BTW the point of the midpipe/highflow cat is a performance one. for 1 you lose 8-10lbs and 2nd you should gain 8-12whp.

Dark,

Thats a very good point, and one that I should have remembered. I forgot how much whp it might put out, but I'm sure its a small but much appreciated increase.. I'm sure the sound will be a little more throaty than with just the RB exhaust so I will take it... No BIG coffee can sound is fine with me! HAHA sorry civics...

Has anyone heard from RP lately? I sent them an e-mail last week because I wanted to know if they had their supercats in stock or how long of a wait their was before ordering it... haven't heard a peep -shrug-

i know they are in texas but i didn't think their part of the state got hit badly from rita - double shrug -

... actually, i think i tried to contact them before to no avail - triple shrug -

carbonRX8 09-28-2005 07:25 PM

I am curious about something. (I am sure it has been discussed but cant find it) I have the RB cat back and stock cat. There is a definite neck-down on the exhaust just after the cat junction. Are the aftermarket high flow cats (discussed above and including the ssr) bigger bore than stock? If they are, how do they mate? What exhaust/hfcat eliminates this restriction? (yeah yeah |SEARCH|)

DARKMAZ8 09-28-2005 09:32 PM

^^^^THe super cat takes away that bottle neck and will result in a free flowing exhaust.

carbonRX8 09-28-2005 09:39 PM

That is good to hear. I will check that out, but the neck down is on my cat back (RB). That means that I either customize it or switch. Any Catbacks that mate with no neck to the supercat?

Carbon,

What exactly do you mean in the above statement? The RP should connect right up to the RB exhaust....

Ok, I am not being clear, sorry. The RB catback has a neckdown right at the cat flange (to match the stock cat). If i put the supercat on, the exhaust will be nice an free flowing EXCEPT that neckdown. I dont want it, so I either customize the RB catback or buy an new neckdownless catback. Basically, I want 3 inches from header to tip.
