Borla or Greddy ???

Compare in Hp gain, Sound, Looks and Performance.. This will help alot of people to decide where to go....

Outlaws eXtreme 01-15-2004 02:05 PM

I'd like the Greddy to say TRUST.. the name sounds cool.. TRUST :) Besides, I liked the low rumble of the Trust exhaust system I've had in the past. Quiet when it needs to be quiet, loud rumble when you want to rev it up.

Would like to see a dyno on the new one on an 8 though... hmm anyone with stats for these two exhausts?

RX-jimenez 01-16-2004 12:21 AM

I heard that the Borla gives you more hp, is that true?? do someone know that for sure??

RX-jimenez 01-16-2004 12:36 AM

here is this Video and Sound of the BB http://www.bbexhaust.com/av/rx8.html

XDEEDUBBX 01-16-2004 01:07 AM

the B&B exhaust is nice...sounds good..makes a little more power than the borla...but more expensive...B&B also offers a straight through test pipe replacement for the cats...huff over at vivid dynoed about 12hp or something close to that over stock..

RX-jimenez 01-17-2004 01:29 AM

well i find out the BB is 699, so is not that bad...:)

RX8on19s 01-17-2004 07:35 PM

The quality and finish of the Greedy is far greater than the Borla. The Borla looks like if they got a "Flowmaster" muffler and adaptered it to the RX-8.

RX-jimenez 01-18-2004 01:17 AM

well is 50-50 so now whos the winner..:)

Japan8 01-18-2004 03:20 AM

I'd say if your car is a show car then B&B, Greddy, or RX-8 store will be the better choice. They come entirely polished, whereas the Borla does not. If you are not going to be putting your car in shows where people will be looking under your car, etc. then choices become a bit more difficult.

Performance wise... from what I can tell they all vary only a little... so no matter which you go with you'll win here.

The Greddy looks good in the pics and TRUST is good stuff. But those tips look a little too big for me. Reports are that there haven't been any plastic melting problems from the larger tip size, but I wonder if it will become an issue if anyone goes to Canzoomer's stage 2 (increased exhaust temp). For some the look of tips that size is a bit of a turn off. Will this tip size fit ok with all bodykits?

Since I've never owned a Porsche, so I know nothing about B&B... but Huff seems straight and the pipes look good in all the pics. The tips are big here, but from the pics it doesn't like it will raise the same concerns as the Greddy.

Borla... having been a long time Stang fan and owner (father and son thing) I know the name Borla. It has been used often and had great reviews from various muscle car magazines. The reports here have been excellent for it. Downs... well a lot of people (at least on this board) are going to have it. Maybe you want to be different...

RX-8 store wasn't mentioned yet. No dyno figures yet, but they seem to be good. From the pics looks are good and after seeing pics in this thread... https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...5&pagenumber=2 I'd say that it's pretty sharp...

Results.... I'd like to hear all of these side by side or hear from someone who's heard 2 or 3 different ones. I lean towards Borla or RX-8 store, but I'd vote for the lowest sounding of the group.

Genom 01-18-2004 11:17 AM

Welp, I have heard the Greddy, and the HKS live. To me the greddy sounds a bit nicer and I am happy with it. After I get the stage 1 I will update on the tips/plastic issue, but so far it hasnt been one at all. The tips are large enough (and they have a minor opening in the rear to allow air in) that they dont heat up to any serious degree. of course that will change, but then it might be worth investing in the exhaust finishers.

RX-jimenez 01-18-2004 02:05 PM

well Japan 8

that was a real good rewiew you did thanks for that, RX-8 store and B&B is my last pick so here we go...:)

success07 01-18-2004 11:17 PM

I'll throw out the RX8Store as my choice. As if you didn't see that one coming. :)

Thread for pics and sound below.

RX-JImenez - I think that everyone will be a tad biased towards the exhaust that they have purchased; which I'm sure that you already know. Some people will buy an exhaust just based on name recognition alone regardless of price and that's their choice and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Others will purchase the first one that they come it contact with because they are able to actually see, hear, and touch it.

I am extremely happy thusfar with the choice that I made and when you finally make your choice, regardless of which one that it is, I know that you'll be happy also. I would tend to bet that there isn't one person (or maybe one) out there that has purchased an aftermarket exhaust that they want to return because they're not happy. Best of luck.

I say GReddy... best $500 spent! Plus GReddy is a reputable company with a degree of quality that I demand, and my standards are quite high. Noticable performance gain, looks decent, and sounds great... Sweet spot around 4-5k RPMs... when the other ports open up. Just my opinion, HKS is asking too much, but u cant go wrong with HKS.

Omicron 01-20-2004 10:34 AM

You should also look at the Rotary Extreme exhaust, it looks to be the best flowing design of all so far. But I'm very happy with my Borla too.

Dookie_Rx-8 01-22-2004 09:35 PM

The reason why Borla is not fit and finished like the other exhaust because they said its useless and would jack up the price, this is why borla is cheaper than the other exhaust

SilverTrigger 02-05-2004 02:48 AM

Is there one exhaust that seems to fit better than others? Which one uses more of the original holes and what-nots from the factory exhaust. I want a good exhaust without alot of crazy modification and rig-ups.

Jeff_pap31s 02-05-2004 03:17 AM

I'll second that!

Jeff_pap31s 02-05-2004 03:18 AM

I am leaning toward Borla though

Genom 02-05-2004 07:41 AM

They all slip in pretty good. The greddy tips fill the exhaust holes in the rear bumper more, and I like that.

success07 02-05-2004 09:03 AM

Silvertrigger and Jeff - Like Genom said, they all will slide into the current configurations with no additional modifications. Most are bolt and go. Some folks are doing it themselves in the matter of couple hours at most.

All of the aftermarket exhausts for the RX8 are carrying a 3.5" to 4" tips and they all seem to fit equally as well.

SilverTrigger 02-05-2004 05:04 PM

Well, with that questioned answered, here's another one. I've read where some people are getting the exhaust finishers to protect the plastic around the exhaust from increased heat. Do most of the exhausts produce that kind of heat, or is it only when combined with something like a CZ1. So, if I'm getting exhaust only, should I get the finishers as a precaution?

Shocka 02-05-2004 09:28 PM

like success07 said...
i am kinda biased towards GReddy, i have liked the way their exhausts sound in the past. BUT I am looking for other opinions.

Does anyone have the greddy so they can take pictures and a sound clip? that would be appreciated.

success07 02-05-2004 10:39 PM

SilverT - IMO, I'd pass on the exhaust finishers. I have them and I convinced that I wasted $200+. You can't see them unless you're at just the right angle and they're a pain to clean with the aftermarket exhaust because of the bigger tips.

Shocka - Do a search and something will show up. I've heard it, so I know its out there.

The exhaust isn't hotter with the Borla or Greddy but the larger tips put the heat much closer to the plastic. I have the exhaust finishers (yes they are harder to clean with the aftermarket exhaust) but I took them off to clean once and ran the car -- I could smell the plastic getting hot without the exhaust finisher in place -- I am going to keep mine on.

Tirxer 02-07-2004 10:38 AM

is there an alternative to avoid the heat confronting the plastic besides adding the exhaust finishers?

should i install the borla exhaust a bit higher?
