Borla Exhaust

I was at the body shop getting estimates on installation of my new exhaust, and the mechanic was sayin that it might have extra cost if there is "snags" when installing it, he said that with some exhausts modifications have to be made to make it fit right. Has anybody had to make modifications or hit snags when installing a borla exhaust system?

If your buying an exhaust made for your car there should be no problems with it. You might check another shop and get an estimate, because there should be 0 snags but it sounds like that guy might be looking to make some extra $$.

yeah thats what i told him and no this guy is saving me money compared to my friend who has a shop lol and ive gone to this shop regularly for a while now so i know there pretty good

i think he was just tryin to tell me that has happened to him with some cars he has worked on

RX8Soldier 09-12-2011 04:18 PM

borla should be a direct swap

invalidcaboose 09-12-2011 05:15 PM

If you have some basic tools, it wouldn't be all that hard. Just jack it up and go to town...

It's not hard to do yourself, I changed my catback myself the first time and it was really simple, but just make sure to be ready when you take it off the rubber hangers. I know I wasn't and that was quite a surprise looking back lol.

lol im thinkin about doin it myself, well with a friend but he has to get some jacks first so ill have to wait a bit

Borla is a direct swap for our cars; if there are any "snags" it's his fault.
Only possible issue is sometimes it can come out a little asymmetric where the tips may not be perfectly centered within the bumper hole things. With a little pushing and wrangling of the exhaust, you should be able to get this pretty centered, though perhaps not 100%. But definitely no modifications needed.

yeah ive heard that before about them not being centered haha im sure if that happens i can fix it

I just installed mine myself last night. Pretty simple. Took me about an hour. WD40 works wonders for this job when it came to the rubber hangers. Just have a final alignment to do as it is a little off on the drivers side. Sounds great!

invalidcaboose 09-21-2011 02:10 PM

where did you end up gettin it from? the exhaust i mean? imm tryin to find out where i should order it from.

I really wasn't planning on buying one at this time, but some local RX8 owner here in Florida was relocating and in need of getting rid of his sit up. It was in really good shape and didn't have anything wrong with it less the dust from sitting in a garage. I was happy to take it off his hands for $300. At that price it's even better. It's been on for a week and I am extremely happy with it. Not too loud, but sounds nice! Good luck!
