Borla / CAI on 4AT RX-8's
 

Does anyone forsee any issues with combining these on an Auto Tranny RX-8?

I've noticed that the stock figures for HP/torque on the 4AT vs. 6M imply wildly different curves.

As such, I'm curious to find out if the RotaryExtreme CAI and the Borla will have different behaviors (especially in conjunction) on the AT vs. the MT.

Thoughts?

Where ahe you seen this? All the power/torque graphs I've seen for hi-power and standard engine are very similar up to aound 7000 rpm

The techs at my local dealer had a chart with figures for Max HP and Max Torque at 3 different RPM numbers (I wish they had dyno figures and charts).

The torque figures for the 4AT were similar at both the very low RPM and very high (for the 4AT) numbers. I'm not sure, but I think the high number was measured at 7K RPM.

I remember being very surprised by this and asked them about it. They informed me that the variable ported 6MT engine has much greater HP because of a higher RPM capability, while the 4AT is geared for better torque delivery at a speed cost.

Does that sound logical? I'm relatively new to the rotary scene (as is obvious).

Let me rephrase my question.

Since the most HP/Torque benefits from the CAI and Borla seem to be derived around 8200 RPM, would it even make sense for a 4AT owner to invest in these for performance gains, when their engines cannot easily run that range?

This is Rotary Extreme's CAI dyno for the Hi-Power engine. Notice how it makes extra power across the rev range not only top end so I would expect it to be beneficial for a Standard engine as well... just dont pay attention to anything over 7500 rpm ;)

As for the Borla, it didn't seem to add anything below 6500 so I guess it wouldn't be as beneficial for the standard engine.
